Jerel, you don't realize that our microwave is used to thaw fishfood, make ice tea, and warm up those delicious doughy pretzels from Sams.

Cooking on a stove or a grill is what i prefer most.

I've got a question. How come sand is rarely discussed in this thread?

I believe that I recall Jerel stating his support for the use of sand on beaches. Starboard Beach is just plain wrong.

Probably for the same reason that Starboard is rarely discussed in all the refugia, algae filter, phosphate remover, problem algae, DSB threads.

He just works those evil words into his replies to annoy the DSB crowd when they search for those terms and this thread pops up.
Hey Jerel: I don't remember your take on ozone. I seem to remember that you are a UV guy, but can't remember your stand on ozone. I'm looking into it for my new tank after hearing Eric Borneman tout it's benefits and would like to hear your thoughts on ozone and ORP. Just point me in the right direction if this has been asked too many times (first 50 pages of this thread, second 50 pages, etc.). Thanks.

What a great - diatoms - idea. I really - hair algae - never thought of it - ROWAPHOS.

That was a two parter, wasn't it Ron? lol

I hate ozone, Chevy has a UV, Ozone thread on the first page right now and Mike and I were goofing on him. But, I really don't like ozone.

UV will do everything that ozone will do without the risk of burning your tank up.

I believe that is what Our Leader refers to as a subliminahble message. Does a high word count put you higher up in the search-algae-count?

Jerel: You see no use in ozone, even with a monitor and carbon, because you think UV is superior all around? I'm wondering if it is mostly all the safety issue, or if you would choose UV even if that was not a concern. UV is a little more maintenance to keep the bulb clean vs. corona discharge O3 is it not. Do you run both at work? My understanding is that ozone is pretty much the SOP at larger public aquariums. Spread the knowledge . . .

Larger aquariums use O3 simply because they can't afford a UV unit/s that would be effective. O3 units are a lot cheaper to buy, especially in that size because only the skimmer limits the size of the unit - not the total system volume.

I can use a large enough UV unit to turn my system over directly through the UV, I can't do that with O3. And I don't need electronics, electronic controllers, meters that are arbitrary and really tell you nothing, carbon, and a bunch of other stuff around salt water that's too easy to break and completely burn up the entire system.
Plus UV does a better job and has never given me a headache.

I'll bet if you plug Bomber and UV into the search engine - you'll get a polyp full.

(what's the latest news?!?!?!)

One of our neighbors is moving and gave us their tank. It's a Tenacor (sp?) with the pebble looking stand. I think it's about 5ft long X 18" X 20"tall, do you want it?
