Thanks everyone. It's been a while so in honor of my tank being red bug free (last of three treatments done tonight), I took some night shots. Here you go...

This one seems to have captured a piece of Frogspawn.

Well, I think it might be the side of a bristleworm, or perhaps the arm of a purple linkia that is out of the DOF of your lens.

Yep. It was a relatively long exposure of the Brain coral while the Serpent star moved one of his legs around it.

It is really starting to fill in. Do you still have that valley you originally designed, or is it overgrown with corals now?

I still never fail to be inspired by your system, melev said it best a couple posts ago.............stunning. Thanks for the new full tank shot.

I was lucky a few weeks ago and picked up a leaking 135gl for free. Has a custom overflow with 2 drains also. I have almost all the old silicone scraped off of it as of now, still have a bit to go. It was over 1" thick in some places

Not sure if it`s possible for you or not, if it is could you possibly take a photo looking down the valley of the rockwork lengthwise?
I am thinking of going with something along those lines in the 135. Not exactly sure yet how I want to aquascape, also considering the lagoon style of rockwork. Do you still enjoy the scaping you went with or are there any regrets where you wished you might have done it differently?

NexDog: Thanks.

Marc: Yes, it's still there just a little narrower now.

Knyght: I'll try and get a shot down the valley but the front glass distorts badly the image when shot at such an angle. I do still like the aquascaping in my tank. I feel it gives some interesting perspectives and allows for tiered positioning of SPS corals. Some say supermarket produce department but I say efficient use of space. I would do it differently but only if the tank were twice... four times as deep.

OK... Here's the best I could get. Again, shooting at such a severe angle to the front glass distorts the image quite a bit. The actual valley is wider than it appears in this shot but it has narrowed some from encroaching corals.

And a shot from above the back after moving the outside sinusoidal valve returns out of the way.

So... while I was at it, I decided to give a make-shift camera box a try. I had a small acrylic, topless box handy that worked well for getting the camera with wide lens down in the water. Here's a couple shots that didn't turn out too bad... for a first attempt.

First, a shot at the valley opening...

And another just for the heck of it since two of the Pipefish decided to get photogenic...

Joseph

If I ever tell you I'm sick of your pictures, ignore me. The colors in your tank are stunning. Look at those fire engine red zoos! And your sand is so clean! Do you ever feed that tank?

Just fabulous.

You won't be surprised when I totally plagiarize your system , will you?

Yeah, I too wanted to know more about your sand. What did you start with and how do you keep it so clean?

You know, if you got some nice sps with good growth, and maybe some cool zoo's.... you might have a half decent tank there.
You should also attempt some DIY stuff, maybe learn how to take some decent pictures....

Yeah, with a little hard work, you might have a real future in this hobby.

Marc: That's the beauty of top-down shots. The colors just "pop". Those red zoa's are more orange from the front but still vibrant. The sand is kept clean by the in-tank crew and a heck of a lot of water current. I have four cucumbers, many snails and crabs. Other than the front glass sand that I periodically clean by hand, the rest is all done "automatically". Oh... and yes, I feed daily.

Bax: Plagiarize away.

thewuf: As above and I started with 100% Southdown sand along with several cups of the top layer from my old tank as seed.

DerekW: I'll keep working on it. Someday... someday.

Thanks guys.

Joseph

There are really 3 people that really inspire me at RC to be a better reefer and have a better tank.

You are one for sure. Your tank is so amazing! Your photography skills are as good as it gets!

RevHtree- I second that! Joseph, you've already heard all the "ooohhing & aaaaahhhhing" and will hear more, but I've got add mine to the teeming masses.... and your aquasculpting- it inspired me a long time, when you first posted your pictures. It made me redesign my tank, (240), and make a dip and valley in the middle, instead of rock work all the way across the tank. Wow, does it make a difference. Just wanted to say thanks and keep it up- and of course, keep the pics coming!

RevHtree: Thank you very much for the kind words. My hope is that this thread motivates others to provide the best habitat for the animals they keep. To hear I have with at least one person means the world to me for the sake of the critters. Saving nature one tank at a time.

TJ: Thank you very much. As to the aquascaping, sometimes empty space can add to the whole. And... you are welcome.

Knyght: Royalties are calculated by the minute but help yourself.

Joseph I really just added it to my webshots, so I only need to pay part-time royalties
As long as my credit is good with you I would always rather owe you than try to beat you out of it

I noticed your sand looks higher in certain areas. Like the front is not so deep, but the back is alot deeper. Is this by design?

I just added sand to my tank and once I got the RO water in and fired it up, the CL moved my sand around leaving the front about 1" and the back sides and a piece in the middle about 4"-5".

I thought of leaving it like this, then after seeing your picture now I'm really considering it. So I was just wondering if you had a plan for the sand layout.

Thanks

I was thinking the same thing.

Always a fan here Weatherson and admirer of truely awesome workmanship. I was about to ask if your pumps move the sand from time to time, or do you have the outputs angled just right so that minimal disturbance is placed "through" the sand and just skims over it?

Very nice work and as always, very informative. Great teacher and pioneer!
