If I remember right, from what I have been told is. ER modifys there pumps. The ASM does not modify there pump. I asked in a forum the other day the same question. They said with the ER pumps you get more LPH of air.
Maybe the people in ER forum can answer that or maybe Lunchbucket, as he seems to know good info about ER. Take what I saying with a grain of salt, just passing along info I received. |

Melev,
What do you think you are getting for LPH for air now? As of now, have you noticed more skimmate? |

I noticed on Euro-Reef's site that they sell a device to read how many liters per minute are used. It costs $30. I don't know that I'd ever need to know that specifically.
I was told told that mine tends to draw in 6 LPH now, and that it would be more like 10 or 11 with the new modification. The tank was just fed some food, so the water quality has changed. I'll know more after about a day has passed to see how the skimmer does. It is important to keep in mind that I had to change the output via the gate valve with the new impellars, so I can't just state 100% what the results are immediately. If you recall, the skimmer started overflowing within minutes of the upgrade, so I had to dial the skimmer back to get it back to what I'd call "normal." |

Sounds like a good upgrade. Now just maybe, if we are lucky, we can get Tucker back in there!!!

![]() Tbduval - i don't know how ER mods the pumps...i don't think anyone but ER knows. just like Deltec and H&S they do not tell how them mod their pumps. it is a company secret. as it should be. Lunchbucket

Hey lunch, is there a thread somewhere of people testing those new eheim pumps? Very interested to see how those turn out.

OT: Melev, do you have any experience with using quiet one pumps externally? I'm planning on turning my 6000 from a return to an over the top closed loop setup similar to yours except using an ocean's motion.

No, I've never owned a Quiet One pump. I've seen a couple and they feel kind of cheap to me. I don't know how they'd hold up, but then again that is based on nothing solid. Is it advertised to run externally as an option? The Mag pump is not, but I did it anyway for over 2 years.

Yeah.....it's stated on the box that it supposedly can be used externally and has some sort of feature that helps cool it while internally or externally used.
gkarshens: thanks for the tip. In that case, I'll probably give it a whirl.

Marc,
How do you like the 10,000k Reeflux MH bulbs that you have over your tank? |

I'll be sure to check back. I've got to order the OM first. I didn't know what size to get until I decided what pump I was going to use. Thanks for the advice folks.

Weird. I've heard of quite a few people that use them, but have never heard of that problem. The biggest complaint I've heard about them is that there is more head loss than advertised. I've had no problems with the pump restarting when it's unplugged, but that will be something I keep my eye on. Of course if it doesn't start the next time that will give me a reason to buy a true external

I use a Quiet One on my SW mixing tank. It cycles on for 15 minutes 4 x per day and it has been great. No problems whatsoever. It does double duty and removes water from my sump during water changes.

Well I ordered my Ocean's Motions Super Squirt Compact today. It's coming to my parents' house next week so hopefully I'll be able to pick it up in the next 2 weeks and as soon as I get a free Saturday, I'll get things up and running, and we can see if the quiet one does the trick.

I used a Quite One on my closed loop and everytime I turned it off I couldn't get it restarted. It was a pain to take apart and clean. I got fed up with it and no longer have a closed loop.

Shawn, you should try it with a different pump. And make sure your closed loop doesn't suck in any sand, as that can be a real issue.
