do you have your tank plumbed so you can just flip a valve and drain it for water changes, it's very convenient.

nope - that's definitely one of my future upgrades.

Right now - FWE treatment and resulting mass dieoff has caused a LOT of problems. 5 fish deaths - and some significant SPS browning...

Also - I had a problem with a pipe that blew out and spilled out about 20 gallons of water - while at the same time the auto-topoff system was filling the tank. SG went from .026 to .020 - all circulation shut off...

so as you can see, it's kinda busy at my house

James, what time of day did you put in the FWE? Wade mentioned it at the meeting and suggested using it at night when the lights are off so that the fish won't eat the dead flat worms. Chad B at reefscience told me that he does it in increments 50% of the dose the first day wait two day 75%, wait two days 100%, wait two days 125% of the suggested dose. Too late now, but that is how he treats his tank. Just runs carbon during the process. Did you perform a water change after you dosed?

Sorry to hear about the deaths as well. Hopefully the corals will color out again.

Did it during the day. Ran about 4 lbs of carbon through a canister filter, and did a 25% waterchange just like the directions stated. I went with a 100% treatment.

Of course now that the tank has had a couple days to settle from the treatment there's a few flatties still alive

That is something that I had noticed too when I'd perfromed treatments the way the directions specified. I think that the directions say to perform another treatment a few days later. Because the eggs won't always die with the first treatment, so you have to hit the buggers a few times. With the way that I mentioned you do end up using alot more FWE, but you don't really have to do a water change because you are killing them off slowly instead of all at once. It worked for me the several times that I have treated my tank that way. Hit them one more time, the little punks! That'll show them.

I'll do it tonight probably. Assuming I have enough water made for a change...

If you don't have many left you probably won't have to do much of one, but it might be good, since you did lose some fish. Most of them should have died off by now is all that I'm saying, so you should have alot less polution in the tank after the next treatment.

James, how quickly has your soli grown? I got a frag of Chad's this past weekend, just wanting to get an idea of how quickly yours has grown is all.
Once mine has grown out some we could always trade frags as well.

it actually grew very quickly - something I'm told is quite rare.. Most of them grow painfully slowly.

Kinda moot though - the soli was the hardest hit from the FWE treatment. Not sure it's going to make it

that really stinks james. Do you use any type of reactor on your system. I can't remember, and I don't want to have to re-read through this entire joker. Had you given those accidental frags to people yet? If so you could probably get frags back from them at some point.

James, I'm really sorry you lost some livestock fighting flatworms. I pre-treat all new arrivals with a couple of drops of FWE in their bag before adding them to my tank.

You are supposed to wait 7 days before re-dosing FWE.

An ounce of prevention right Marc?

That's definitely my future routine...

So - where in the instructions does it suggest a 7 day waiting period on redosing? Because I redosed today.....

Well, it should say it in the instruction sheet. I have a box here and could look it up. I might have mentioned it on this page perhaps.... I've not read it in a long time. http://www.melevsreef.com/flatworms.html

EDIT: yes, I did mention it briefly.

Instructions from Salifert do not indicate any sort of waiting period. In fact, the discussion of redosing doesn't come up at all

From what people were telling me - 2 days is the longest I should wait - because of the quickness with which they reproduce...

Ok call me a newbie I have not had problems with flatworms *knock on wood* just how are they introduced into a system. What I mean is do they come on corals, rock or both, something else?

I stand corrected. I checked both my original package from a long time ago as well as the new one and neither mention it. Perhaps I read that in the Salifert Forum way back when it seemed like every other thread was about flatworms a couple of years ago. Check with Habib to see what his current recommendation is.

Greg, they can come in on clams, corals, LR, macro algae, LS, etc...but I seriously doubt you'll see it come in on fish. It is very easy to treat the bag (1 drop per gallon) with a few drops as a 15 minute pre-treat before adding livestock to your tank.
