Hi Reef Central Members,

Me:

Long time lurker (During my fresh water days wishing for a salt) but recently I have been lucking enough to start off on a nice project for my soon to be baby boy. My plan is to have something setup in his room within the next 3 months.

Whats up everyone? I'm Anthony, I'm new to reefing and saltwater tanks, and just recently acquired a Oceanic 90 gallon reef ready tank, and really looking forward to building it and getting my first saltwater tank up and running, Unfortunately I can't view/read the for sale/trade threads yet so I can take advantage of getting some equipment on the cheap, because it wasn't till after I purchased my tank did I realize just how expensive this hobby really can be.... I guess its ebay/craigslist for me and after I buy everything I need and I'm done asking all the questions I may have about what I have to get and which is better so on and so forth and done buying everything ELSEWHERE..... Thats when I'll be able to view them I don't get that but I guess theirs a reason for it but I still don't get it... So hi everyone, and I'm really looking forward on having one of those BEAUTIFUL tanks that I've seen most of the members have on here, filled with those oh so vibrantly colorful corals and fish with the slight soothing sound of flowing water in my bedroom.. I'm Anthony and I thank everyone for letting me be a part of this awesome community of some very knowledgeable, laid back, and cool people and hoping to expand my knowledge and my tank in the very near future.

Good day
-Anthony

Greetings Anthony
You will be able to see the buy/sell forums after 90 days and 50 meaningful posts.
In the mean time, dive in and absorb some of the great knowledge shared here. Look in your local forums for equipment, you might meet some reefers right in your neighborhood.

Hello everyone!

I am ken and just got my first tank. I am about to turn 20 and the tank I have is a simple 30 gallon tank. I have absolutely no experience, but thankfully my mom does have some to help me through it. I am fascinated by fish and owning my own tank. Realistically I have little knowledge of what needs to be done but have been reading a lot about it. Hopefully I can learn while on here and have some help along the way!

Hello everyone, my name is Oscar and i'm from Fort Wayne, IN. Just joined today, perused the site a lil bit before and decided to join up. I'm in the homework stage of getting into the hobby. I had previously dabbled with the idea of getting into the hobby, but was quickly disillusioned with how expensive it was to get into it. Flash forward 10 years or so, i've caught the bug again, and have enough disposable income this time around to dive right in! I'm thinking either a 90 or 120 gallon system is calling my name. I read "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" cover to cover, albeit a long time ago, and am now in the middle of "The Reef Aquarium Volume Three: Science, Art, and Technology". I've read numerous posts on numerous forums, have watched countless youtube videos, basically i've been living vicariously through the awesome ecosystems everyone else has been able to create. It's a lil' frightening (or at least it should be) to all newcomers that want to be responsible marine aquarists. There's boatloads of information out there and trying to be prepared for a lot of possible scenarios is really unreasonable. I think I just have to get my feet wet and go from there. Well... enough of my rambling, hoping to cultivate great relationships with many of you here!

New to hobby

My name is Jose and i am new to this hobby.. i saw my friends tank and i wanted one too...

I have a Biocube 29

so I have a slight problem with my Biocube..
I own a Biocube 29 and i bought it from a thrift store looking brand new. I actually only paid 22$ for it. It was missing both of its ballast's and the moon light plug..
I bought the missing plugs and the lights worked for about a day, and now they dont work,
the fans turn on so i know its getting power but i dont know what to do about the other lights. the moon lights are the only ones that work/..

now here is my issue, I am a soldier and dont have much money to spend on this tank so i am looking for suggestions on what i can do to make my tank work ..

i have seen many coral tanks and would love to eventually turn my into that over time.

any suggestions would help ././

thank you all for your time and hope you can help me out..

Hello, my name is Philip and I am new to saltwater tanks. I have a 55 gallon tank that has yet to be cycled. Any suggestions on fish and lights?
I was real lucky and was given a set up that is ready to go minus a light.

Welcome Philip. Is it going to be a reef tank or just fish and live rock?
I'd say high-end LED, Metal Halide, or a good set of T5 HO flourescents.

Hello all,

I'm Aaron and I am quite new to this hobby. I met my girlfriend a little over a year ago and she had a 36g bow front salt water tank. Once she moved in with me I kind of took over and I really started digging in to the reef keeping information. 4 months later almost every piece of equipment has been replaced and the tank is looking much much better.

I look forward to getting some much needed help from the Reef Central community and hopefully I will be able to provide some useful information as well

Also is there a place I should be putting tank specs other than in my signature? I know most people want to know tank information if you ask questions and I didn't know if there a specific place I should be putting this info.

Hello

Hey everybody,

This is my first post on the forum my name is David my dream is to become a world renowned audio engineer/sound designer but I've decided to pull my old 50 gal (previously used for freshwater) out the garage and take on a new reef tank as a new hobby because my last became a career goal hahaha. I'm a quick learner so I'm hoping to get really good at this. This seemed like the perfect forum to join to learn everything I need to know and be a part of a community of people who enjoy doing this.

Thanks for having me and I can't wait to start!

What's up RC? My name's Tom from Long Island NY I have a 55 gallon reef that I've been working on right after Hurricane Sandy hit last Nov so it's been a couple months of ups and downs doing a bunch of research. Where can I start my own thread for members?

Hello everyone! I'm Melissa from Lafayette LA. I am brand new to this forum and have been in this hobby for about 6 months. My fiance and I recently upgraded to a 120 gallon reef tank. Our first ever saltwater tank was a 75 gallon (i know a bit large to start with!) but quickly became addicted and upgraded relatively fast!
