In your sized tank, there will be some initial chasing. Best (after quarantine) is to introduce the second fish an hour before lights out and it should work.

As those who follow this thread know, I do not provide suggestions/recommendations for a variety of reasons. I am, however, always willing to reanalyze any perspective stocking list.

Are fish within the same genus generally the same in terms of hardiness, feeding, etc.?

No. While some generalizations are possible, it is usually a bad idea to make those kind of assumptions.

P fridmani is the least aggressive pseudochromis but is still semi-aggressive; marginal, but ok in this setup

Thanks for helping us out snorvich! I'm currently building my 58 gallon and have built a 20 gallon sump for it as well. I just ordered 60 lbs of dry rock and 40 lbs of sand. I will be seeding it with a piece of live rock once my structure is built... I'm thinking of doing arches with shelves and maybe a peninsula so that there are places to hide. I plan on doing a FOWLR tank. I think the dimentions of my tank are 36" long x 18" wide x 21" tall. I will be running a mag 7 return pump and have a Hydor Koralia Evolution Aquarium Circulation Pump, 850 GPH. I'm interested what you think of this list...

2 firefish
2 clowns
1 Royal Gramma Basslet
1 Red/Green or spotted mandarin
1 Papuan toby puffer
1 Bartlett's Anthias
A school of Blue/Green Reef Chromis
A few Four Stripe Damselfish
1 One spot foxface
1 White Tail Bristletooth Tang
Not sure how many Wrasse I can get but I really like the following:
6 line wrasse
Vrolik's Wrasse
Christmas Wrasse
Whipfin Fairy Wrasse

Thanks for your input!

2 firefish unless this a bonded, male plus female pair, only one will survive long term
2 clowns depending on species, they may command 25-50 gallons of tank space once sexually mature
1 Royal Gramma Basslet
1 Red/Green or spotted mandarin needs a larger tank
1 Papuan toby puffer will nip on fins of tank mates
1 Bartlett's Anthias needs a larger tank
A school of Blue/Green Reef Chromis needs a much larger tank and they will not "school"; also these have been coming in less than healthy in recent times with uronema symptoms
A few Four Stripe Damselfish very aggressive, will terrorize most water column fish in this sized tank
1 One spot foxface needs a larger tank
1 White Tail Bristletooth Tang needs a larger tank
Not sure how many Wrasse I can get but I really like the following:
6 line wrasse very aggressive, not compatibile with a dragonette
Vrolik's Wrasse
Christmas Wrasse
Whipfin Fairy Wrasse

Unfortunately, this is way too many fish for this sized tank

Thanks for your input!

The sixline wrasse may have issue with the Gramma loretto

Thank-you.

The six line is still very small, and I hope the Gramma shows up at the lfs soon. Hope adding them young will reduce the chance of aggression, but thank-you. I will watch closely for issues.

Unfortunately, that is not the case. As fish mature their perceived territorial imperative expands.

55 gallon with 20 gallon sump, DIY skimmer, plenty of liverock and DSB in sump. Probably fish only, maybe some softies and macroalgae, but definitely no SPS.
3 green chromis
2 clownfish (either occ, perc, or saddleback)
1 dwarf angelfish (probably flame, coral beauty, or elibi)
1 carpenter's flasher wrasse
1 mandarin dragonete
Possibly either a royal gramma or a female carpenter's flasher wrasse

Thanks in advance, very helpful thread.
Bryan

Beginner trying to plan out a 20g long tank. The tank will have 2 powerheads and a HOB converted to a refugium (aquaclear 70). About 20 lbs of rock, 2/3 introduced as live. Eventually will add a couple of easy corals, but startign FOWLR.

I am looking at a combo of the following fish:
Ocellaris Clown (maybe a pair)
Firefish
Small Species of Shrimp Goby (plus shrimp)
Tailspot Blenny
Clown or Citron Goby

**I've had people suggest a midas blenny, but it seems like it would be too large. I am trying to stay with small/mostly non-aggressive fish.

In addition, would it be better to swap out any of these fish for a Royal Gramma?

The tank will also have a robust snail cleanup crew. I've been told to stick to a need-only basis with emerald crabs. On the fence whether a couple micro hermits are a good idea or not.
