It helps alot. Thank you.

BTW, there were three pipes (besides the wedge). If I use the short on the skimmer base and the long on the return, what is the medium length for?

I hopefully will be placing my order with Mike soon for an Orca 200, i will have a 180g mixed reef with 75g sump/fuge. I can't figure out whether i should just get the basic model to start and upgrade down the road or go ahead and get the pro model and the new NW.

I used the long one to go over onto the sump and medium one to lower(drain) water back into the sump, this way less splashing noise, etc...

IMO go with the stock 200 for now. As your tank matures you can always add the pro set up later.

Was in the pump box right? It's not used. The needlewheel dart comes with a venturi part included, but it's not the one that the Reeflo uses.

I have been trying to wait patiently, while my 250 breaks, in. It now has been 5 1/2 week, at the 3 1/2 week mark I thought it was starting to kick in got maybe 2" of skimmate in a 5 gallon bucket over the first 3 weeks, so I empty it and over the past 2 weeks I barley have a inch of skimmate and for the better of the day not a lot of dry skimm coming out. I have the bubbles breaking half way up the neck, if not nothing will come out.
I left my old Octopus 200 on and its pulling 10x the reeflo.

Can anyone help, I have a fair amount of messy eaters in my tank, nitrates around 50, I was hoping this would help.

thanks

What is your water level and flow through the skimmer?

Also have you tried turning off the Octopus to see what the reeflo starts pulling. It may just be that the water doesn't have much left to pull out.

I'm filling a 4"x10" waste collector every week on mine.

I am running a mag5, the water level is at mid to top of the lettering. I will also try turning off my other skimmer, to see if that also makes a difference.

Maybe the others can comment, but at the lettering seems pretty low to me for the 250. I run mine more towards the flange when the dart is off.

We are going into 6.5 weeks since I set up my 250, a week since I unplugged my Octopus 200, and still not getting much skimm, about 1/4" in a 5 gallon bucket, the water level is just below the flange, the breaking bubbles are now set about 3" from top of neck. Is here something wrong, after all the reading, I thought this would be pulling a ton of junk out, but my old Berlin Skmmer pulled more than this on my 500g. Any help would be appreciated.

bigred16, can you get a picture of the neck during "normal" operation? Obviously as you feed, etc things vary, but give us an idea of what it typically looks like.

Your feed pump may be too small. A mag 5 only pushes 500GPH at 0 head feet. I'm running a QuietOne 3000 with 780GPH at 0 feet and the skimmer calls for 600GPH... Something you might want to test if you can get your hands on a higher volume pump.

The water level is just below the flange when the Dart motor is off, if I used a bigger pump that would only raise the water level more.
I raised the level where the bubbles pop to 3-4" from top, still not much of anything, most of the day it just bubbles, very little foam, it is going on 7Weeks this Sunday, and is becoming very frustrating, that I spent a lot of money on this and is not performing, when I had a Berlin skimmer hook up for a while it produced better. Any help would be appreciated, I will try to get some pictures soon.

What salinity do you run at? I tend to have a similar problem if my salinity drops a bit.

I know this was already addressed in this thread somewhere, I just don't want to reread the whoel thread. Correct me if I am wrong, but when you hook a Kill-a-Watt metter to the dart you should be getting somewhere around 100-120 and if you are getting much higher numbers like 148-150 then its time to clean the venture?
This is my issue right now and it might be your issue bigred as I have notice a reduction in performance and I had my about as long as you.
Now it this is true, do you unscrew the venture and clean the little air injecture or do you need to get down in the whole with say a pipe cleaner?

Pictures of your setup are probably going to be the best answer now. There may be something one of us will see that were just not thinking of from the description. Right now I'm out of ideas.

Its there, but its under and additional purchase for the Upgraded cup.
So go to the info page for the upgraded 250 cup and you will see a spot where you can choose to but the upgraded needlewheel. This stumped me earilier today as I am planning on ordering the upgrades in a couple of weeks.

Reef Specialty started to only offer the Upgrade Pin wheel with the purchase of the Upgrade cup. The reason for this is there is no way you can utilize the upgrade pin wheel with the stock cup, as it will overflow on start up. If you already have purchased the upgrade cup you can easily order a wheel from them over the phone or email contact.
