I just bought my Razor 160watt from my LFS. Corals, anemone and fish love them!

And they practically gave me these Blacker Ice pair for free.

Coverage of 160W Razor - Comments please

Hi,

Considering strongly to join the Razor club but I'd need a bit of you guys help to figure out which mode works for me.

My tank is 51" long (20" x 20" deep and wide), but due to the overflow and streams the actual area which needs to be illuminated is about 39" long. And actually SPS are in area of 32-34".

And to make life even more difficult there is 1.2" center brace. (Centered on tank, thus not exactly in middle of the to be illuminated 39" area).

Now, after reading though multiple forums I can't figure out would 1x 160W 16K be enough or not? Additionally, can someone tell me what is the distance between outermost LED clusters in 160W model (center to center)?

2 x 120W would definitely be enough and brace wouldn't be a problem but they cost together almost 2x more and one LED cluster of the 2 x 120W setup would practically illuminate my overflow... don't want to pay for that. Any news whether 200W model will actually be out some day? Don't want to wait for months...

So here's my story...I had to sell my entire set up due to a move last July! Will be setting up a cube tank soon. I have the glass already. How are your tanks doing so far with the RAZOR? Honestly, with the success I had with it I am looking at the same fixture. The only thing I would do differently is acclimatization.

Lol, same here. I've been running the fixture for a year with great results on my LPS/Softie dominated tank (the few SPS look great too). I'd make the same decision if I had to do it over again.

Thanks Mike. I love it and it's really really strong. Coverage is superb as well. It should easily roast SPS corals!!

If you haven't bought a light already Samvais, I can offer some input. I keep a single 160watt Razor over my 42" tank and keep birdsnest and birds of paradise on either ends. I'd say you would be ok with just 1 160watt Razor in my experience.

That said! Of course you'd be better off with 2 120watts. If the budget just absolutely won't allow it do the 160watt 27" Razor now, and in the future you can buy the Maxspect spotlights that will eventually come out.

nice looking tank. It looks like I'm now leaning towards the Razors after reading this thread. It was either them or the Ai's
