I have my CS5-3 today and running I am happy that it pulling bad stuff out but but not happy the pump is louder then my cheap air pump.
Is there a brake in time for the pump that it will quiet down and not vibrate the sump so much?

Giz, Codeman00, rklutt and everyone
How loud is yours running?

Okay, since I'm not getting any response in the ER forum.

What parts do I need to turn my ER 8-2 into a recirculating skimmer (I will be doing the gate valve mod too)?

Sorry Lunchbucket no but pic of what part of the skimmer?
I saw the pumpservice photo-rama and took the volute off and pulled out the impeller and shaft put in my fingers and spinned it and it wobbles the pin wheel side to side and up and down is that good or bad? do they not test them?

raddogz I am sorry I can not help or I would I am new to euro reef maybe you can post it on The euro reef sponser forum.

rklutt when you said that not very loud so I know do you have a air pump is it not as loud as that air pump?
Or is louder or not as your mag pump.
all I know I here the pump and do not hear the water going in the sump any more that how loud.
I put a felt pad under it put it is till loud.
I have this kind of luck all the time I got the one that gets loud.

What skimmer should I use on my new 58g softie/LPS tank? I was thinking the CS80? What is up with the new names of the skimmers, I can't keep up

raddogz,
you need a couple of 3/4" UniSeals (I would get 3 or 4 of them) you might want to get a 1" Uniseal also for the input. You need all of the GateValve stuff, Gatevalve and lots of plumbing.
Get two 3/4" Unions (input and output of the Sedra into the Skimmer) Allows you to remove the pump. You must do this.
You need a way to get water into the skimmer, I'm using a MJ1200, works perfect. Some people run directly off the overflow, this did not work well for me, too much variation.

Thats pretty much it, I started a thread somewhere about 4 months ago on my 8-2 RC Mod. Couple of good photos on there. Let me know if you have any questions.

opps...that was a typo. i ment the CS80..just like yours.

i posted above what the difference was

RC80 - recirculating model of the CS80. hence the SP2 pump sucks from the body and pumps inot the body. on the CS80...the pump sucks from the sump and pumps into the skimmer. with the RC's you have to feed the skimmer w/ a seperate pump...hence you can decide how much to run through them...the slower the flow the longer the contact time to remove some pesty organics.

the RC's are more money though.

I was just about to mention that. Seems like a ball valve will not be able to fine tune as well as a gate valve.

That's a long riser neck. What's the theory behind that vs. the old Euro-Reefs?

got a quick question. I was looking at the blems on H2O tropicals specifically the ES5-2 or 5-24. I will have a 45g with 20g sump would eigther one work or is there some thing else that would work better. Anyone have experience with the blems sense they only have a 30 day warranty on the skimmer body I am a little worried.
