Rich, it make me think that DNW-400 could run on 1 pump? 70 scfh 70 watts pretty awesome.

OK guys I could use a bit of advice here. My nw200 now recirced with a genx4100 with ER pinwheel and fed with a MJ1200 is not producing consistantly. Either I get a extremely wet skim that is very light colored and fill a gallon cup/day or nothing at all. There seems to be very little middle ground. I have the water level set about a inch below the begining of the transition when I get nothing, move it up a 1/2 inch and I get water skim. Is the recirc pump too big? What can I do here?

Hmm perhaps the Gen-X 4100 is a little too big? It's normally rated for 1085gph, while the stock one is probably around 800 or less... (Since someone said the OTP3000 was between OR2500 and 3500).
I thought I saw somewhere that SWC would be selling OTP pumps... Sorry, not much help.

Yes Jayson @ SWC sells all the sizes of the otp pumps. He has many parts for the pumps as well.

when i got my nw200, it was broken. because of the fact that i got the last one the company had in stock i had to wait 6 months for my new one, i didn't have a tank running that needed it at the time so i said ok, and to make up for it they sent me an whole new skimmer, pump, collection cup, the whole package. so now i have an extra pump and all of the unions laying around.
my questions is this: can i run both pumps on the 200??? its the nonrecirc model, and i have everything i would need (i think, this includes a gate valve mod kit). are there any places this could go drastically wrong (i can think of a few my self, to much air, not enough dwell time, ect.)?? and how hard would it be to accomplish? thanks for you imput, i know tons of people on this thread are crazy with modding, so i just want some input before i go ahead with it all. thanks in advance- Chris

Two pumps on the NW200 body will be too much...
Just stick with one, and have one for backup. Or perhaps send it to dandy7200.

Yo Dandy - mine seems to be pretty unpredictable as well, but at least I have the gate valve to make adjustments easier.
Before any mods I got super dark green-brown sludge very slowly, now I get iced tea colored water quickly if I don't lower the foam and watch it. Because my bioload has also been in flux as I stock and feed this new tank, I wonder if we need to put together a matrix of things that cause skimmate production, to see if environmental factors weigh more heavily than how much scfm you can pull at a given time? just a thought, jp

Well I have a extra genx2400 and some magvi mesh. I'm going to do some pump modding and change the outlets to 1" and see if I can get that on instead. I think there is just too much water volume being turned over to get good contact time. The air volume is nice but, I guess that doesn't matter if I can't get a stable production.

Will do Magvi. I have some of those laying around I believe. I am going to mad the 2400 anyway, what do you think the max airflow I should expect with that pump? I plan to round out the inside shroud, enlarge everything to 1" plumbing and make a new venturi, pretty much just like kent did.

what i suggest to do it step by step like that you will be able to find the best way or the best result you want the skimmer perform , if you will do all together you will not be able to know what every mod or step cause to the perform that will be changed ...... |

Please help. I just installed a 3 pump Reeftek/Octopus insump skimmer, a monstor. Can one replace the slide pipe to ajust the waterlevel with a PVC ball valave and reroute the water to my next chamber. Kind regards Carl |

Hey, has anyone tried using an air pump to force more air into the venturis on the recirculating pumps? Think this would make any difference? Kinda like how Spazz has used an air pump to turbocharge the needlewheel Darts he's made?

Rich,
do you think that enlarging the output made a big difference in how much air you are pulling? also, with that bigger in/out and 50 or 70 SCFH is the turbulence a big problem? Jeff |

Does anyone know where I can get a spare impeller for the three pump recirculating Octopus skimmer pumps?
I'd like to try the mesh mod but don't want to modify an existing impeller. |
