New Playlists
Skimmate: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...I7Kz__9iz25tjf

Skimmer Foam: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...AFHUFzq4wBUnTz

The skimmate has a pretty long video watching the microbes finish off the insides of a few cells.

The foam videos are crazy. It's the end for all "larger" life that's for sure but they are still moving around. The cute colorfull microbes are attaching and sucking the life out of everything. I'll work on embedding some of my favorites later.

Should probably put a warning at the top, if you are a germaphobe stay out !

But if this doesn't get you to put some gloves on in your tank and wash your hands thoroughly after I don't know what will.

I like your new toy!

There's lots of live in the skimmer. How long was that skimate in the skimmer. I'm curious to know if the life is there because it has been removed from the water or because it is proliferating in a veritable smorgasbord.

What happens if you clean the skimmer, run for 24 hours and look at the skimate again?

All in all, very cool though.

My original question:
What is going on in the cyano video where it looks sort of like matter flowing through a pipe?

Can you explain that?

cyano 1000x4
There's a lot going on with that one. Do you have a specific timestamp? There's cyano that is constantly moving, nematodied worms, and some kind of critter that moves like a screw.

It's hard to say how long that skimmate has been down in the bottom of the collection cup. Haven't touched it since 9/11/2015.

I'll be getting a new skimmer soon hopefully and will test again with a week old skimmate from the collection cup.

However that neck foam would be common with all skimmers.

If its the bacteria

Heres a couple nice images of the different shapes and morphology of bacteria

Got those from this site which is a good quick read on bacteria and it's growth.

So, my guess is the tiny clear like worms wriggling around I was seeing were vibrio type bacteria.

Which makes since

Another cool site showing up close of the vibrio and the coccus which is what I assume those cute little color changing spheres are a type of.

http://classes.midlandstech.edu/cart...4/lecture2.htm

Which also describes two other shapes from earlier. The larger stiffer cork screw like organism and the lighting filament like cork screw one.

"Spirilla have a helical shape and fairly rigid bodies.

Spirochetes have a helical shape and flexible bodies. Spirochetes move by means of axial filaments, which look like flagella contained beneath a flexible external sheath.
"

Coming up

White film that as you can see my yellow eye kole tang was snacking on all day. I usually have to clean my glass every few days. Was supposed to clean it last night but didn't get the chance too. Was busy with the salt mix parameter testing which is another thread.

Looks white but when scraped to one side it gets a green tint to it.

Filled with bacteria and some algae. Found some pretty awesome things. Getting the pictures transfered now. Unfortunately I messed up on the videos and forgot to rename each as I was going so it kept over writing the previous video.

Will get the pictures posted later.

I'm still mad at myself for messing up the video. Had some really cool video of several things pictured here.

Detritus from the top of a rock in my sump. FYI, I don't touch the Detritus in my sump.

As expected I found the unexpected. It's just amazing to me how much life I can find in just a single small drop of water. It's not like I'm looking at huge samples spanning large locations. I pick a location, grab an unused pipette, and suck in. Then I drip a bit onto a paper towel and then place a drop onto the slide.

And then go looking for life and life has not disappointed me yet.
