Wow, I once had 3 or 4 tubes of that algae pop up, but it never spread and went away on it's own.

I just had a horrilbe battle with my 90 gallon.

Some how ICH got to my tangs and spread to everyone. I finally had to remove everything from the tank and QT them. I lost three of my purple anthias that were eating and good for months. They couldn't take the ich.

During the QT time my SPS corals were wiped out by something that I have never figured out. They all died one at a time over night.

Right after that my clowns got Popeye in the QT and I think that the smaller tank stressed everyone and someone spread velvet.

The main tank was having an algea bloom without the tangs to nip and everything and Cyanobacteria set in. took me two treatments of the med they got out for that and a complete tank tear down and cleaning to get rid of everything.

three months of hell....but I saved all my fish, LPS, and Softies. SPS's gone, Anthias gone.....

OH, and now I found zoanthid eating Nudis that are having a field day. Don't have any idea where they came from. I have not added anything in over nine months and then everything was QT'ed first and dipped.

????

I still love it and will always have a tank.

The worst plague!

This was mine..... Hopefully never again... still don't really know what it is!!

Looks cool here......

After 2 months of pulling it out by hand.. water changes etc. ... This is what it looked like when I gave up, and let it spread for a week just before I tore the tank down.....

Tried many things to get rid of it... only thing I found to kill it is BLEACH!!!

Needless to say... I'm setting my new 120 up as we speak!!

What is THAT? Some kind of red algae? Does look kinda cool in the first shot. Obviously, that was just the advance scouts for the invasion!

Glad I found this thread...

Somebody gave me a kenya tree frag this past weekend. I will trash it tomorrow when I get home.
I was also given a large strip of gsp, I think I'll keep it but trim it down and keep a close eye on it.

I think 2farNorth is winning so far.... with scbadiver a close second... horrible.
I think if I were 2 farNorth I would take that tank and have the entire thing incinerated, tank, pumps, RO/DI, lights, food, even the test kits... don't leave a trace!

THAT IS NOT OF THIS WORLD!!!!

In process of!! I didn't really want to post a pic... but I figure oh-well the tank is torn down now. And all livestock is safe..and I seemed to keep it out of my other tanks.. so.... even the fish room/equip room is getting a makeover!!

Please don't trash it - there is ABSOLUTELY NO reason for you to trash a perfectly fine kenya tree!
Why don't you offer it to someone else that is local?

Alot of people don't realize - when kenya trees hit the surfact of the water, their branches will kink over, and then break off - swim away & find a new spot to grow. I've had plenty of kenya trees in my old 150, and they NEVER grew out of control, or spread unless i broke a piece off & planted is somewhere else.

Hmm.... you are right, I didn't realize that either. I actually like it so I think I'll put it on a rock in the sump until I get my fuge up and running. Amazing how opinions can vary. I'll give it a try.

PS - How did you keep it from growing to the surface and breaking off on its own?

Mine break off all the time and are nowhere near the surface. I must have had 10 pieces fall already this week!

You can always keep it and see what it does in your tank! Just don't put it near the top -- those babies that drop will fall into your rock work!

You could just take it to an LFS and trade it for fish credit. I had one for a long time, and I thought the coral was pretty, but I do admit it was a pain. If you just keep an eye out for them, they can easily be removed if you get them after they first drop. I will never get another one though for that reason primarily.

Lol. Ah, yes, but, truth be told, the worst plague I've ever seen causes the human stupidity plague. The worst plague being.... *dramatic music*

VACATION!

All the worst things I've ever heard of happening in tanks all happened related to or conveniently during vacation. My first college vacation, my roommates ignored the tank and let everything starve (*thank god for primarily cheap and hardy fish!). Two winters later, my roommates turned a 110G WHITE (yes, white, as in blanco, ivory, snow, the color of weddings, etc.) because they managed to feed a four month supply of food in under 17 days (because they were both convinced no one was feeding the fish). That same winter, my manager had to cut a vacation of his short because one of his clients had a tank disaster when the return on their Eheim failed, draining the tank while the family slept. The next winter, the u-joint on my SeaClone failed, draining about four gallons out of my tank while my roommate searched for the "weird drippy noise."

Seriously- vacation. Everything bad happens on vacation so you'll have plenty of work and tinkering when you get home!

Does anyone actually know what that pink weed was? Never seen anything quite like that before. Is it a red algae? Or maybe it really is not of this world! LOL.

That pink weed is bizarre---

And, Drummerreef, if that growth is yellow star polyps., I have heard that peps will take after it as it is [I have heard, but I doubt: related to aiptasia]...at least it may smell like aiptasia.

It's hydroids Sk8r. Believe me, I would be perfectly content with yellow polyps. Hydroids suck.

Yeah, that pink stuff may be the strangest nuisance I've ever seen. But hey, what about the fact that you actually grew an Alien Life Form? Maybe somebody would actually buy it!
