For a 10G you can look into the Viper MH light. Below is a link for specs and prices

Vipers have not received the best of reviews over time that I've read. I got my light as a retrofit setup from illuming.com . There are also fixtures called Sunpods, I believe, that are pretty popular in the nano forums.

They also make a 70W M/H. I would go with either a 10K or if you like more blue go with a 14k bulb and supplement with the 22w P/C in attinic.

Pics of my 10g under 150w when I first set it up. The upper levels won't get any corals for now because I also use this tank as an SPS quarantine tank when I bring frags in and place them on the upper part of the rock for observation. Later, as my larger tank fills in and I do fewer frags, I'll get more coral going up higher. White balance was used so you don't really see any blue from the phoenix 14k light I'm using:

Thanks
This is about the 4th version of my 10g tank and this one was kind of a fun little project. Got rid of any pump in the tank by putting an over the back closed loop on it. Then kind of slopped together a canopy for the retrofit MH lighting. Also had to add a fan due to heat problems from the pump and light.

Hey there Chuppy!
I'll be honest, at first glance I was skeptical. Then I read you other posts, and I started to understand your situation more. I'm glad you are getting help! It sounds like you are really listening to the advice you're getting now and taking good steps to keep you corals! I think it's awesome that you took some of the fish back to the LFS, and have a new local guy that you are talking to. Keeping corals in a 10 gallon shouldn't be a problem! You'll be able to do much more with corals in a 10 gallon then with fish, so I think it's a good call to focus on the corals. I honestly don't think your lighting is that bad. It will be able to keep softies for sure, and everything near the top of you tank should be fine, but the things at the bottom may need some more light. Although, you should probably upgrade the light sometime, don't feel like that has to be the main focus for you right now, IMO. Get the tank situated. Get the levels normalized and stable, and when that happens in about a month or so, then you can look into alternative lighting options. What you have may not be the BEST, but it will work for you short term while you tend to other matters. Just my opinion. Glad to hear things are getting on track for you! Continued good luck and success.

Well guys thanks for the advices... This new LFS dude.. well he said he could get me a viper.. or some sort of a clip-on 150W MH system... i am anxiously waiting for it.....
To further clarify the ID i want from the 'purplish coral' i will get another pic of it up soon... but for now... refer to my 1st picture... is the coral with lots of 'arms/hands'... it has 2 stalks... one is pointing up with its 'hands' drooping down while the other just droops all the way To further clarify my motives... I have no more interest for any more fish.. (i am very happy with my occt. clown)... my priority is set to getting a so called 'impossible' nano stable (my 12 gal of course) and to my corals.. hence the MH lightning.... this new LFS dude said extra blue athnic lightning is not necessary but without it.. all the smashing fluorescent colours won't be as brilliant.. - Advice? oh yea 1 more thing.. my earlier LFS felt bad for helping me screw up and guess what his son wants to give me-FOC.? a coral...green candy cane i suspect... he was selling it for $50 ... - Advice on this? should i? Thanks all for the GREAT help and advice

I say stick to what you have at the moment as cdentii1 states. Watch your tank progress and when it matures you will feel better about stocking more. Just remember to test and perform your water changes to keep your tank healthy. Keep in mind the size of your tank. Currently in my 20G as it stands I only have 1 true perc, a skunk cleaner, and a peppermint shrimp. A few hermits and 1 huge turbo snail for cleanup.
I added my livestock after 3 months of just watching my tank cycle through. In the beginning from October till December I was staring at live rock and some algae growth. In this hobby patience is truly a virtue. As many say in here "only bad things happen quickly on a reef tank". Just slow down and enjoy the process and read more and more. Good luck

Wow, interesting thread. Glad to see things working out. I have had a reef set up for 10 plus years. Took a break for a while, and I am learning all over again as well. Don't feel bad, there is a lot to learn.
Things have changed a lot in the last 3 years, and I suspect they will continue to change. Even the experienced guys have to keep reading and learning. I think your tank looks awesome. My advice is this: water changes, water changes, water changes!!! They will keep your nitrates low, your trace elements high, and you out of trouble. |

Pic of my old 10g setup. See all that stuff at the top...that's all xenia....under about 60w of screw in PC lighting. Xenia does not need MH to be happy.
.....and yes, those are my green star polyps growing up the front glass!

It almost looks like a Gonoporia (flowerpot coral). Have you done any tests yet? You need to check your water parameters. Nitrates, Nitrites, pH, Phosphates, Magnesium (often overlooked), Ammonia, Alkalinity, Salinity and Calcium are all the elements I test for. See if you can bring a water sample from your tank to you LFS to perform a test.

It looks like it could be Xenia and most likely is, however it is possible that it is Gonoporia (sorry not good enough pic (no pun intended)). If it is Xenia and you have a nutrient rich water providing it is happy it will over run the aquarium in no time. If you see it start to spread rapidly isolate the rock to its own little island to control its growth then frag it and sell it back to the LFS.
