Well, as long as water turbulence is kept to a minimum, I dont see an advantage to 'spacing out the bubbles' any more than they are. There are advantages (particles and proteins that would otherwise drain are trapped) to having such a high bubble density actually (reminds me of a beckett)... it may not be a cone, but you still get that 'bubble stacking' effect that makes body look like white PVC. Usually having a larger area is to minimize turbulence from the water, but if that is taken care of then you are in another type of skimming method where you instead get more dwell time by 'stacking' the bubbles in the neck & body. They cant just float up and pop because they have 12" of solid foam head to get through first. The denser the bubbles, the longer they will stay in the water when they reach the head, and the harder it will be for particles and even organics to escape/drain from the foam. In a sense, its turning more of the skimmer into a the neck rather than the main body. This is one of the main problems I see with the Volcanoes... too large without enough bubble density until you reach the neck.
Ive been tinkering with some turbulence reduction methods of my own which allow me to put 1000lph of air into a 5" diameter with little to no water turbulence... this is sorta cool because then there IS no transition/reducer from body to neck... its just a straight pipe to allow the free flow of bubbles from the outlet to the head in the neck. |

How did you test? Just start it in a bucket without the cover and look? Will the impeller stay in place for the test without the support of a top bushing? I need to test this since I may be seeing the same thing. What was the air draw difference one way vs the other?

Been out in Australia for a few mths now. Look ok, still have skinny necks and an ugly transition. Wonder where the pump idea came from? lol. This was being discussed a couple yrs ago and no one ever went through with it....until now i guess. |

Looks nice. What are the dimensions? Are the sicce's mesh or pinwheels? Only thing i see that may be a problem is the pump's are going to crash into each other as they look like they are aimed straight in. Hopefully its just the pic. They should be angled in the same direction for a smooth flow.
Where's the action pics! |

It's hard to tell from the pic, but I think the MSX250 & 300 models with the 2 sicce's had them aligned kinda like this (looking down from top):
//.............ll P.left.........P.Rt. That way the entire chamber mixture had a smooth counter-clockwise rotation. Probably same with this one.

I understand the pin wheel gets a total of 70scfh. I like the idea of having the pumps facing the way they do, it will pickup any fine particles that make it around the overflow sock and float around near the bottom of my sump. I will be picking up a unit this weekend and let you all know how it works, if its anything like the 250 Pro I will be equally pleased.

No, i think you have that backwards. A pinwheel sicce pulls 30-35scfh. Theres no way that skimmer could handle 140scfh. The skimmer looks like 8" and has a 5-5.5" neck. A sicce pump is 5" long. Look at it compared to the body.

30-35 scfh each depending on depth. 70scfh each would be wild

140scfh would be like hooking a dart pump up to it... you'd blow the lid off and put a hole in your wall.
