I'm sure Blue Vet is just as good, although I'm not familiar with exactly how it works (inject the anemone or cover it) but the directions should state it clearly. I don't think it can expire, but if you're getting this from the same person it might be worth your while to check if it's expired or not =P. Good luck.

Also, if you're using a floating arm hydrometer, it is probably off. You need a refractometer to be sure about your salinity. They are only $25 on ebay. My hydrometer was off by about .002 when I tested it after getting the refractometer, and it was nearly new and washed out with RO/DI after every use.

From now on make salinity changes s l o w l y, like over the course of several days to a week. A wrong salinity is not as harmful to the fish as a huge sudden jump . If your salinity was high, just remove a cup of tank water and replace with RO/DI every few hours, is the proper way to do it.

Good luck!

make sure you're keeping a very good eye on your mandarin. i kept a psychedelic mandarin for a little bit, until he got sold. but, they tough little cookies if you don't know how to care for them properly. make sure you have a lot of little places where he can hide and i like to spot feed them, cause they don't come out a whole lot.
