Well for a while it was my motorcycle... I bought it around Feb, 2009. Never ridden a motorcycle before in my life. Started with a 2003 Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R. 636cc engine.
Had just gotten done repainting it, took it for a test drive once put back together, less than a mile into the ride I laid it down... After a night in the ER, $750 in medical bills AFTER the insurance, and about $600 into repairing the bike myself instead of taking it to a shop... I have it running again, haven't been down since. Now the reef bug has ahold of me and the poor bike sits in the garage... I wanna go for a ride! -Scott |

Photography for me. I have about $20K invested in Nikkor glasses, studio equipment and several pro bodies (mostly film) but to be honest I think I spent MORE with reefkeeping. With photography, you buy the equipment and you use it forever without any major costs (besides the film, fixer, and all that chemicals in the darkroom) With reefing, it's very common to spend $100 on a coral only to watch it die in 1 week. Reefing is a VERY expensive and risky hobby.

I have spent my life in the pursuit of happiness. Fine dining, music, motorcycles, building real furniture, and cars. This one has been my money pit for many years, and still is, though I have more in equipment for the tank than I do this...
I showed this car for several years, got all the trophies I wanted, got tired of the politics of car shows and have devoted myself to my tank.

cash burn pre-reef
For me it was a fanatical obsession with Race bikes, building them, racing, going to AMA & WERA races,
$350 for track tires $15g race fuel $200 track fees $250 hotel, meals, gas $1000 to replace body work when I crashed. that's just one weekend! So after doing that several times and rebuilding bikes and my body I moved on but still ride...just cashed my first dear after 12 years riding street. Time for a another bike. Then I went back to finish my black belt in TKD, so got the whole family in, took over my friends school, teaching the kids class, sunk a lot of money in tournaments, marketing the school, helping pay the bills all for the love of the sport, still love to suit up and get a good fight going...but now life has slowed down, gotten fat, sit on my couch and stare at fish tanks. Much safer!

I got into reefing in college.... I did not have any money or hobbies besides drinking
Now, my money is split in between Whitewater Kayaking and Reefing as far as hobbies go. Luckily, I have top notch gear for kayaking, so the cost is down to just the travel involved. Well, that is until I break another boat or helmet while bouncing off rocks

Guns. Still have em, still shoot em. I just don't buy as many these days.
I've always been good with money. Reefing is something I do on the side and it doesn't break the bank. Also, guns hold their value - reef tank stuff doesn't. |

Well as to avoid any sort of infraction, I'll just say my money went to partying hard and women.
Now I'm in a long-term relationship and have a real job so reefing is how I get enjoyment...(although I do still party from time to time)

My all Carbon Fiber Century Predator was a real pain if you wrecked it. It was too dangerous not to replace the entire frame due to it being all carbon fiber. The chance of a stress fracture that is unseen by the eye couldn't been taken. Combine that with the 26cc gasser, and the carbon blades, it was a dangerous machine for sure. That one truely scared the s*** out of me when I flew it.
