His concern is how thin nano-glass is. I understand that to a degree, but the thickness on the rimless tanks is a bit beefier.

But as far as practice goes, I'm going to use a 10 gallon sump, and plan on buying two 10 gallon tanks; 1 for the sump, and 1 for practicing a few holes.

Will two practice holes really dull out the hole-saw? I'm concerned about this...

By the way, for those that were ticked I got my mp-10 for $187 with 15% off, Socaltropical is having another 15% off sale until jan 1st.

Use yes15 for the coupon code.

I plan on getting my bubble magus 3.5cone with this for $152.

I would definitely check to make sure the tank isn't tempered. If I had to guess, I would think it would be.

its definitely not tempered. Just finished drilling my Mr. Aqua tank 20 minutes ago. very easy to do... just take your time. High speed and low pressure are key.

I've read they can drill a 100 holes before they start to dull.

The bit is coated with diamonds.

I've seen literally over 10 on this sight that were all drilled, and this may be my lazy assumption, but that is good enough for me to drill it without any further investigation.

Thanks for the info cherubfish, and thanks for the info about the easy drilling!!

Purchased my 10gal sump, and am about 50% done with my stand. I have everything cut to size, and partially pieced together.

I plan on having it skinned and painted tomorrow, and about 90% done.

It's not perfect, but I'm extremely happy with how it is turning out.

Can't wait to get this thing started.

I'll get some pics up of the stand.

I have the skeleton complete, but have been feeling ill the past couple of days and haven't got to skinning it yet.

I've decided to do a false door on the front of the stand, and on one side, there will be a "false wall" where the finished plywood is attached by rare earth magnets, and will be completely removable.

When the falsewall is attached to the stand, it will not be noticeable that it is not screwed to the stand.

I forgot to add, wednesday I'm going to be ordering my Bubble Magus 3.5 cone protein skimmer.

It is normally $179.99, but thanks to 15% off, I'm getting it for $152 shipped to my door.

Starting Material and work area:

Blueprints of stand, front view and dimensions:

Skeleton about 70% done. There is now another identical frame around the top:

That's all the pics I have now, but as I said earlier, the frame is now 100% complete.

That's a standard 10 gallon sump at the base, and although it doesn't look like it will fit, it will, with about 1" of room on each side once the skinning is covering the frame.

Yes, the outside dimensions are 22"x22". I did this using select 2x4's ( which are really 1.5x3.5 ) and framing it the way I did, I will be able to fit a 10 gallon sump with a pretty tall skimmer and a little bit of elbow room inside.

I don't know where you're getting your tanks but I've drilled 10 gallon Walmart tanks before so they aren't tempered.

Like bobthehobo9 said, high speed and low pressure are key. Also keep your drill steady, it will walk all over the place at first. You need very low pressure.

And you do know about the clay dam for water don't you?

Yea I'm just getting the basic aga 10 gallons and I've usenpolar lenses to certify that they aren't tempered.

I do know about the clay dam. It also appears that in recent orders glass holes has included a drilling template to start the hole. I'm sure I'll appreciate the heck out of that.
