Its really nice, you can change the timer so it goes on and off at whatever time you want and you can change it so different days will be different times. Also I really like the fact that it has 4 plugs for stuff that aren't on the timer also that is really good for the powerheads and other things.
Caution about this power strip I bought it with excitement at the price and the timer ability, but the 4 time strips are all controlled by the timer, so no individual timed outlets. all 4 are timed by the timer so if you set it for 9am on and 9pm off all 4 of them turn on and off.

:P can't wait to see the progress!

Don't forget to check Craigslist in your area. I've been able to pick up several items I needed real cheap. Good luck with your build.

I stand corrected about the fuge. Didn't know that.

Yeah, I got my tank before I found RC, so the Marron was sold to me as I was a newbie. They get to big, and are total...erm... "Uranus" wipes. She has so far killed 4 fish, and multiple corals have met their demise by her rearranging "skills".

Stick with cute and cuddly, not terrifying and blood hungry.

Naughty, I don't know where you're located, but Tampa Bay Saltwater is a really good option for mail order LR. Just give them a call and tell them what you need. With such a small volume, he will probably just Fed ex it to you. No problems.

Cheers

hey guys!!! finally some updates

i bought a ton of stuff from foster and smith aquatics, i got:
- eheim jager 50 w heater
- mag float
- uncut filter floss
- purigen 100 ml
- api test kit (ph, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)
- thermometer as suggested by KeysKid, thanks!!!
- deep six hydrometer to tide me over til i can afford a refractometer
- fish net
- fish acclimation kit, it was 2 bucks and looked like something i would probably use...

also, found out i can get saltwater from the lfs for a buck a gallon, so i'm going to do that for now, since i probably won't have to change much more than a couple gallons a week

dogstar, i looked at the TBS website and it looked like something i would love to get, so i think i'll end up getting the package for the 10 gallon which includes:
- 20 pounds live rock
- 10 pounds live sand
- 10 blue leg hermit crabs
- 5 astrea snails
- 1 tiger tail cucumber
- 1 serpent or brittle star
- 1 peppermint shrimp

does this sound like a good package? i liked how they said they ship half the rock and then once it cycles the rest of the rock and the critters

If you an I would get Scarlet Hermits. Apparently they are a lot less mean, and don't kill snails as much.

Also, I have a 5 gallon jug of salt, and I refill it about once a month/ 3 weeks. It'll last quite awhile :P

Im confused with the ship half the rock thing. It seems like the new rock that they ship with the critters would just cause another cycle in the tank, especially one this small. But they probably know better

You might get some chemipure elite, too. Or at least some phosban (generic is GFO, granulated ferric oxide) for phosphate control.

Otherwise looks great!

hey guys! awesome input, i might ask to see if it's possible to switch to scarlet hermits, but i'm sure they know if they're selling them...

as for the chemipure, i definitely will get it, though once my original carbon tray runs out, so in a month or so

I've always used blues, and they are harmless, at least the small ones are. There are some that are bigger that have blue stripped legs that I would anticipate kill snails for the shells, but the ones I get are tiny, and I think that's the ones TBS gets. FF0001, if you read the website, they explain why they ship in two bunches. It makes perfect sense. I've actually seen a guy that got two striped gobies that were mated sent in the package. Actually fish as a hitchhiker! That's cool.
All the rock ships in water, not just dampened newspaper, and so when it gets there it's really a small cycle.

Anyway, read the website.

Aaron

I love TBS!! This is what my TBS 10 Gallon package looked like in my BC14!

One of the best looking tanks I've ever had!!

You can't go wrong with TBS! (No I don't work for them!)

Very unique choice of livestock. I like it, you don't usually see a tank with macros, sponges and gorgs. I love the balance. Very nice.

whoa, that is really cool! it looks so full with live rock, is 20 pounds too much? i'm thinking of asking the guy for one centerpiece rock and small ones to put around the outside, since i don't want it to touch the backside...

your corals are sooooo sweet looking, did any of those come with the rock and grow or are all of them added later? also, does lighting have to be significantly upgraded to have those kinds of coral? sponges are badass, i want one :P

Thanks!! This was an empty tank I just added water, then placed the TBS order! That was all in my order! Lots of extras!!

As far as the lights, I used the PC lighting that came with the BC14.

Okay... Now back to your tank! Everything I read so far sounds good!

You could rinse it out.. But I wouldn't use any chemicals on it, just water.

You could fill it, make sure everything runs correctly, and then place your TBS order. The first package will start off the cycle, so you wont have to place anything in your water ahead of time to start anything... Just get everything up and running, then give TBS a call.

i asked Richard about the hermits, he said that there are two kinds of blue ones and the ones he sells have not had any problems in many packages. i asked him if i could switch out my peppermint shrimp for another one and he said sure, he doesn't have any listed on there but if i can i'm going to try to get a coral banded shrimp, i think they're the prettiest... if not that then a cleaner shrimp or a porcelain crab :P also he said he can specify my order and find me the shapes i want!

ooh, maybe i should draw some rockscapes!! yay, haha that's definitely going to be my off time at work activity today :P

Coral banded could be trouble in a small tank. They tend to be aggressive. A peppermint will help with any aptasia you might have. Cleaners are great, too.

Thanks!! But I took that tank down and put it all into the 120. So I couldn't even send any updated pictures on it...

But this is why I'm hanging out in the nano area again... Thinking about plugging my BC14 in again!

Oh an Naughty: I like the rock design!!!

hello
I see you are building your nano reef, I wish you luck with it.
You could put two ocellaris, live very well on nano and have a nice color.
They are very hardy fish, these are mine

I'm digging the rock scape design. I should have drawn something out like this. Maybe delete that little pile on the front right and look for a little pile of Zoas for that spot.
