I have put the heater into the overflow which is working flawlessly. I also added a shelf to one of the doors on the stand for storage.

Update
Here are my two 4.5" Eco Fans I ordered as well as my ATO from Autotopoff.com. My tank temp was getting up to 86 degrees by the end of the day and with these two fans running it stays between 78 and 81. I am planning to add another fan or two into the sump to keep it at or below 80.

Here is my auto top off. It has been working flawlessly for the past week since I have installed it. It is hooked to my Mag Drive 2400 pump in the basement which pumps the water upstairs.

Update
Here are my water change and top off tanks in the basement. They are two brute 32g cans with a Mag Drive 2400 pump. If I want to do a water change all I have to do is close the top off valve and open the salt water tank valve. I then disable the top off pump and syphon water out of my display. Once I have removed 20g or so I just enable the top off pump and it automatically fills the tank with salt water to the point it was before. Above is my 50gpd Coralife RO/DI unit.

Here are more pictures of the system in the basement. I used a tee to tap into the cold water supply to the washing mashine for the RO/DI unit. The rejection line for the RO goes to the floor drain pictured. I also have a Aquaheat Titanium Heater in the salt water container as well as a little digital thermometer. Also I have added float valves to the two brute cans and an auto shut off on the RO/DI just incase I forget I have my RO running (which I do allll the time).

Update
Here are some pictures of my quarantine tank with my new coral beauty and Sailfin tang. Also the new LED light I got for my quarantine. It was 60 bucks or so and is working great and is not too bright. Also I set up a 2.5 gallon coral dip tank with an air stone. I Dipped my corals in Coral ReVive in this tank before moving them into the display.

Vortec MP40
Alright I bought my first of two mp40s I plan on getting (once money provides). I have realized that with a reef tank build, whatever you budget for, double it I also plan on purchasing the batter back up as well with time of course. This thing sure works amazing though! Love the undertow its giving. It has totally re-arranged my sand bed already but I expected that going with sugar sized sand.

Its been a while since I have updated. Everything is doing great and the tank is looking awesome. I added the coral beauty (Dwayne "the rock" Johnson) and Sailfin Tang (Captain Jack Sparrow) into the display today. They were in quarantine for about a month with the last two weeks being dosed with Cupramine. They are healthy and well. My Flame Angel has been chasing the coral beauty around a bunch but seems to have settled down. Hopefully tomorrow it will be better. I am at work now but tomorrow I will try and get some new pictures up!

looks great. i love the water change idea. i wish i had room to do that im my house.
how did u cycle the tank and how long did it take? the reason i ask is i did the same think as u with dry rock in my 125g about 2 weeks ago. no signs in ammonia yet. have u had any problems with your apex? i had to send mine back for service(brand new) . every time my heater or lights were turned on the ph jumped out of site. |

It cycled for about 6 weeks before I put the first fish in if i remember correctly. . I added two small pieces of live rock to help seed it and dropped a raw shrimp in to decompose to help things out. As for the apex it has worked great since I put it in. I did calibrate the PH probe with a 7 and 10 ph solution when I installed it. Im definitly loving the apex now though. Do you have a build thread mos?

First off thats a very nice setup!! The question I have is how do you like your refugium overflowing into the sump. This is the setup i have planned but have not gotten around to actually drilling the 20 long and attaching it to the sump currently running.

Thanks for the coments! The refugium flowing into the sump is working great for me. I really like it because I can fully control the flow I want into the fuge. I just had to angle my return into the fuge pushing away from the overflow so the cheato does not gather to closely around it. I will post some updated pictures of the fuge with the cheato in it soon. Just make sure your sump can handle the little bit of extra water overflow incase of a power outage.

Much needed Update!
Well not a lot has happened in the last little while. I didn't want to add anything else to the tank until after I was back from vacation! Well I got home last week and have added some new additions! I have added some new zoos as well as an elegance coral. I also added a plate coral but was unable to get a good picture of it so ill put one up later. I also ordered 3 female Barletts Anthias from JL aquatics in Vancouver as well as 20 blue leg hermits, 15 narsarrius snails, 15 astrea snails, 15 cerith snails, a coral banded shrimp, and two emerald crabs. Everything arrived alive and well! It was great and I will deffinitly be ordering from them again. I have attached a picture of the anthias right after they went into my quarantine tank where they will soon begin going through cupramine before hitting the display.
I added eggcrate to the top of my tank as well. I did this because my coral beauty keeps jumping into the overflow! He is getting picked on a bit by the flame angel which I believe is why he is doing it but slowly they are starting to get along. I will soon be getting another Vortech MP40. It will probably be about a month but I am looking forward to it! Also this weekend a local aquarium shop is having its grand opening and frag swap. This will be my first frag swap and although I do not have anything to contribute, I plan on buying a ton of SPS! Keep a lookout next week for pictures of some nice new coral! Now for the PICTURES! |

Ya on the weekend there is a frag swap and I am planning on getting a good start on SPS. I built the tank for a fairly dominant SPS tank but was waiting for it to stabalize before adding too much. I also have been seeding some new live rock for 3 months in a seperate container and just began adding a bit of it yesterday. I will be adding another 35lbs total to the sump for extra filtration and to hopefully stop the little bit of micro bubbles I get in the display.

ive noticed most sps'ers recommend at least 6 months before u add them to your tank. i added some to mine at 8 weeks. some did good and some not so good. i guess its a toss up.
