So you never asked for warranty replacement of the cup and lid?

This is starting to makes sense now. SWC makes great skimmers. You got one that is having an issue. You should really try to give them an opportunity to make it right before trying to drag thier name through the mud. It is an excellent skimmer that is way oversized and you were running it incorrectly. There is no way you can return a used skimmer but they will honor your warranty. They have no reason not to.

I have the SWC 230, similar skimmer though slightly smaller. Same Askoll pump and is super quiet. The trick with these skimmers is to keep the water level inside the skimmer body low (not the sump depth) then adjust the air. I have mine adjusted so the water level is an inch below the white connector that joins the body to the cup. This level is gauged before bubbles begin to climb into the neck and is best checked just after feeding anything that typically knocks down the skimmate. I have my skimmer sitting in enough water so that the outlet is just barely submerged.

The 230 is rated at 200-300 gallons and even this skimmer on my 200g is practically too much skimmer. The 300 is rated at 300-400.

I seriously doubt they will do anything for me. How can they sell skimmers that are known to leak at the neck and not provide lubricant to seal it? It would cost them maybe .25 cents to put a small tube of lubricant in the box and ask the customer to apply it before use rather than wait for them to leak and then tell their customer who just spent $650 to go buy some "KY jelly" to stop the leak. If you ask me the KY jelly is for something else.

Did you figure out what you are going to do with your power cord issue? If you are local to Disneyland I can try to help you out.

Did you know when you spend $40,000 on a new truck it comes with the gas light on? Sounds ridiculous right?

$650 is nothing for a skimmer that will run a 400 gallon tank. Having to go to the store to get some lube is minor. This is the skimmer your skimmer is a copy of. It costs $1200. I would rather have a small leak at the neck then the screw off neck the alpha 250 has. I have used both skimmers and if I had to pay for it I would rather have the 300a.

No point nit picking the skimmer especially when you haven't done your part as a customer to inform the company you have a crazing problem.

SWC has been notified. They have pictures of the crazing. They know about the other issues as well. They have not made any attempt to rectify this situation.

Your truck also came with a Bumper to Bumper warranty which would take care of most issues, except for maintenance & wear and tear items like brake pads or a clutch. If you can find a link to SWC's warranty I would appreciate it. I have not seen any such warranty other than their return policy.

On the other hand I agree with you. This could be a great skimmer that this could compete with higher end brands at a much lower cost, which is why I bought this skimmer.

My wife is in tears since she bought this skimmer for my graduation present and here it sits riddled with issues.

IMO $650 skimmer should not be leaking. Are all SWC having this issue and require lubricant ?

No not all SWC. I found a few other people on the internet with the same issue before I bought it and decided to take a chance. I lost. =(

You haven’t lost yet but looks like you are about to give up. I would keep calling and asking for a cap/lid replacement.

I have given up. Here is a link for the sale of this skimmer. Since some people believe this is a great skimmer maybe it will sell soon.
(I made sure it was okay to post this by one of the RC mod's before doing this)

I just threw up a thread about my 160 and the crappy pump. While mine works OK I can tell you first hand their quality control sucks, no way should mine have left the factory in the condition I received it. My water level is to the top of the outlet pipe and I get darker output than you. I am going to try raising it a little. Might just solve the pump issue with better production.

Grim you have been on RC for so long it's a pleasure to finally be in contact with you. =)

Sorry to hear you are having issues as well. Maybe we can start a new thread for all the people that have issues with their SWC skimmers since it is forbidden to have a "positive experience with a SWC skimmer club/thread" here on RC =)

Call up elite reef, I had two noisey pumps and they sent me two complete new pumps for free, second day air and all. The new pumps are much better and the customer service I received was great. The lady that answered the phones wasn't the best but I sas transferred to a guy that helped me. Thus was the same guy that when I bought my skimmer drove 30 minutes from where he was to measure the skimmer, after putting it together, to give me the exact size to make sure it would fit in my sump.
I have never had a leaking issue either. I wanna say the guys name was cj but could be wrong. Give them a call and worst thing they can say is no. The crazing your probably stuck with but the other things will get fixed if you take a positive attitude when approaching them.

Good luck.

Grim-The "ladies" have been relocated these days. Harbor is dead now. I think Craigslist -"Casual Encounters" have taken over their business. =)
