that is way too loud. my tunze is essentially silent (when you open the cabinet, you can kinda hear the bubbles popping if you listen real close)

the sound is coming from the skimmer. Sounds like an underwater jet. This is not even close to silent. I have to turn it off in the day time.

I contact coralife again and they said its still "breaking in" I can not imagine this jet sound will go away.

I have that same skimmer and mine was never loud.
The loudest part of my sump is the water coming in from the overflow.
My HOB overflow is another story..........lol
sounds like the toilets running, I put a cover on so it's pretty quiet now.

They are suppose to come with them. Mine was missing and it was sent to my from Coralife.

I have been in daily contact with Jeremy at Coralife. Here to hoping this works out!

With the discharge under water

https://www.dropbox.com/s/11ukdq9l4a...2016.01.32.mp4

Per Coralife concering the discharge being under water
Because that added height adds back pressure on the pump. The output will be fine below the water

so it's okay to have the discharge under water without the "T" do hickey with the hole in it.
When I got mine it discharged under water with no problem. My water height was just like yours 9". Then I started reading your post and thought I should have that add on.
So Coralife told you that you didn't need the add on part just let it discharge under water ?

According to Coralife, having it discharge under water is better than extending the discharge.

I did not see or hear any difference in my situation, my skimmer still sounds like an under water jet.

I just wrote them because mine didn't come with a cap for the silencer . It doesn't show it in the parts break down drawing but it does mention it in the directions. I also asked about the discharge underwater, I made the little "T" thing but I think I will just raise it up a little because there is no room in the sump for my heaters.
Yours is not quieting down at all after break in ?

No mine is just as loud today as it was 2 weeks ago. Coralife just told me it might be my salinity.

Well, its been awhile, but I sent to back to Coralife, they check it out and said it was fine and sent it back. The included a silencer which already came with the unit and some other stuff.

Great service from Jeremy at Coralife, but my skimmer is still very loud. The noise is coming from the air intake, not the pump, water etc.. I have had it off since around November, but I am wanting to add some fish, so the bio load will be going up.

I change about 12% water every 10 days or about, my tank is fine, but it would be nice to have a skimmer running

I suppose 'quiet' is in the ear of the beholder

Is it vibration?

I am a newbie, but I agree, insane noise. Try a different pump?

Hey didn't have enough time to read through the whole thread but I had a coralifeskimmer and it was loud for weeks. I think mine was a different noise it was the silencer. When I would clog the holes up like you it would stop the noise then let go and it was loud as a vacume. If it was a coralife email their customer service, they are pretty good at cs. Also you can put your skimmer on a timer

Yeah email them and ask them for a new silencer. I had to google images for coralife super skimmer silencer and emailed them a image of the piece I needed because they sent the wrong piece the first time. But after I replaced it, it was an amazing difference. Try going on utube to see if yours sound different then others

I have my skimmer set from 11pm to 6am. Last night when it went on, you can hear thru out the entire house. I woke up at of bed and ran 3 silencers on the stupid thing which put the intake about 3 feet from the skimmer. Turns out the noise is coming from the skimmer itself, i.e. where the bubbles are being made.. the noise sounds like an underwater jet.

I offered to upgrade this and pay for a higher end model from coralife, but they did not accept. I do not want to screw my LFS, but its seems like I am stuck with a defective or terrible model.

That's bad customer service...they should've let you upgrade!

The Rio 600 pump on my BakPak HOB skimmer was horribly loud and I'm really noise-sensitive, but it's gotten better thankfully after many little adjustments...a skimmer shouldn't be so loud it wracks your nerves.

Alright so make sure the pump is about 3 inches from the water line. My pump ended up loosing its seal and they sent me out a new pump... My skimmer is the loudest equipment and I run it during the day, I bet it sounds 5 times louder at night. While my pump didn't work, I ran my tank for 2 months without the skimmer. I never saw a change in my ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate. This was in a 75 gallon with 8 small fish. You might not need one, how big is your tank?

Of must exchanged 20 emails today with Coarlife. In the chain of emails sometime back in October, they sent me a video of MY skimmer working with basically no noise. Everything seemed to be the same so I really had no idea what to do.

So tonight I started to tinker and rotated the pump 90 degrees and jet engine noise went completely away.

Its on now and I can't even hear it in the same room.

I have no idea why, but its working. Only 7 months later my skimmer is working as designed.

Good thing I really do not need it.

okay now you got my attention. I have the same skimmer. My tank is in my office across from my Master Bedroom and I have to close the office door at night because of the noise.
You rotated the intake pump 90 degrees ? So from horizontal to vertical ?

Yup, the Venturi is now on top. Coarlife is telling me now the water level should be around 7.5 inches. perhaps that might help you.
