There is a Simple solution to marine animal suicidal tendencies...... CUC intervention. For some reason when snails talk, everybody listens.

What is worse is when it is a murder-suicide situation like all the lionfish off the US coast and the yoga isn't working for them.

Nina... Will I be one of the 4 to survive?

Also fun (actually pretty depressing) fact: Penguins commit suicide. They will randomly just walk across the Antarctic shelf inland with no destination. Very strange. They just seem to stop eating and then wander off. Makes you wonder about a lot of things to do with both human and animal nature.

I have to confess....I'm guilty of manslaughter...er...uh...fishslaughter.

About a year ago I had the tight fitting 1/4" jump preventing cover off of my tank to feed and do some maintenance when my Yellow Fin Flasher Wrasse jumped out of the tank and down the sleve of my t-shirt. He got stuck somewhere between my chest and waist but fell out when I pulled my shirt up to look for him. Unfortunately, I then stepped on him while trying to find him on the floor. My wife witnessed this and is an accessory to fishslaughter.

At least his demise was instantaneous and not drawn out.

Fish Psych 101

How a friend, or you the reef keeper, can prevent fish suicide. This is known by many different names including: carpet surfing, taking the magic toilet ride, getting eaten by something in the tank, VorTech shred, Free Willy, Harry Caray, and my personal favorite DOG SUSHI.

Here are the proven preventive measures

1. Ask the fish if they have a plan and how it makes them "feel"
2. Sit with them and provide for safety a minimum of twenty-four hours. This excuses you from any work or kid duty
3. if they start to get happier watch out! This is when they do it... the happiness is a result of finally deciding to go through with the plan. Cover all of the power-heads, and apply the tight fitting lid. Find that foamy thing you threw away when you got your VorTech
4. If it gets really bad and they keep bashing their head into the lid, provide for solitary confinement. Apply the padded specimen containers and tiny little straightjackets.
5. Once they are no longer experiencing suicidal ideation have them sign a suicide-watch contract. When they are determined "able to interact" with the population again, let them. Continue to monitor for safety on an hourly basis

Faces like this... I call it "grumpy clown" or "chromis always poop and i think it's food" are always to be further assessed.

I posted this earlier and I must credit "grumpy clown" to mcgyvr another user on this forum.

I had a tail spot blend commit suicide when it cut its head off in the impeller.

Sure the 12 blend burrows were perfect but they weren't enough apparently. .

I've had quite a few laughs from this thread. Reefers have a great sense of humor. Unfortunately, I'm guessing the OP was serious and probably doesn't enjoy the lighthearted nature of the thread. I am though!!!!!
