Dont forget to rule out a pistol shrimp. I had clicking coming from my rock and i was worried it was a mantis. I didnt want the mantis so i dunked the small rock the noise was coming from in fresh water. The clicking was a pistol shrimp. Very cool looking animal. He lived in that rock until my puffer made lunch out of him

I had 2 stone crabs.. moved them to a tank just for them.. They tore through most of my gorilla population before i pulled them, now the gorillas are coming back out so I'll need to nab those, but really they aren't that bad. I have so many pods I really need to get a dragonet.. rocks are crawling with them. I have a bunch of tiny pistol shrimp, and porcelain crabs which I really like. all sorts of cool things in there.. way more interesting than any other aquarium i've had just because of the things I see.. I ordered the package about 6 months ago. I love macro algae and I got a little bit of it, but then it slowly disappeared.

and as others said: Don't tear things apart for clicking, you'll eventually see it if it is a mantis, and wont harm much in the mean time.

Reguardless of what they are i actually like them lol. I just assumed manjo by their size and how they literally have not multiplied. Both of them are different colors too. My biggest one is probably 3 inches in diameter if not bigger

uploadfromtaptalk1440021489849.jpg its usually bigger than that. But ive noticed over tge years that it prefers low light. My foxface just ate a bunch of caulerpa that was covering it up. So its a little upset with all the light its getting at the moment. But it has a stony base, the tips have a bubble at each end (like a jokers hat) and the tentacles look like they are filled with micro bubbles

Novice question here - Thinking about using some TBS rock for my new 90 gallon. Will gorilla crabs or mantis shrimp try to eat my smaller fish like my sharknose goby and firefish?

My live rock and sand from TBS will arrive on Saturday! My setup of the new 75 gallon will start then! This is my second purchase from TBS and it is the best rock you can buy, the life on it is just amazing!

GC = maybe depending on size.
MS = absolutley

Try to get them all out before you put the rock in. Itll save you a lot of headache.

I actually paid for a pistol shrimp. Not from tbs but he is one of my favorites. So I find it funny that people are worried about them.

There's a bunch of litle crabs in mine. There was a cool black and white one that was quite gregarious and not shy at all. It made it easy to spear him as he was out in the open all the time. I felt a little bad but I could tell he was a naughty one. I'm going to stick a little airline-sized booze bottles in there with some bait in it for the others.
