Don't know if this will be of any help to you but I drilled my 29 AG in the back corner(everything I read online says the bottom is tempered) with a corner overflow box measuring 5" x 4". I used a 1" bulkhead with a 90 degree elbow inside the overflow box to cut down on gurgling. My sump is a 10 gallon aquarium with baffles and as a return pump I use a Quiet One 3000(780 gph) that's connected to two 3/4" drilled bulkheads running back into the tank.

I run the pump wide open but I have to make sure that my water level stays at a certain level in my sump. If it drops down just a small amount the pump pushes thousands of micro bubbles into the main tank.

Installed my 150 watt pendants and temp went up to 82.4. This is with out the heat of the return pump, skimmer pump, refugium pump, and sea-swirl. With all this heat I'll have to get a chiller. Probably an IceProbe. Water streaming from the sump drip plate (no bio-balls), might cool the water some.

For now I'll just run my 75 watt VHO for lights.

Anyone have one of cpr's CR series sumps? I was wondering how well the 'drain from tank into the lid of the sump thing' works.

Benny, what is an 'aquarium specific check valve'?

BTW, very nice setup.

The link worked and now you kind of see my fishroom (on 4/22/06.) I was standing on a chair.

That's a 29 gallon tank.

I need the shortest connection from pump to sump, so: pvc or hose?

My temp has been running around 81.4 with the MHs on. I won't know how much draw down I need when everything else is plugged in but I'm already looking at an IceProbe.

Don't know where I would mount an IceProbe. Right into an aquarium glass bulkhead or acrylic sump bulkhead.

When I switch to the drilled tank (not the one I'm using now), I'll put the IceProbe on the tank in case of a situation where I can't use my sump. And in case of a situation where I can't use the new sump, I'll switch with the old sump for the time being. So if the IceProbe is on the new tank, it can't be switched to the old sump.

Looks like I'll have to drill the old tank for an IceProbe if I'm going to use one for now and then.

Christian at wetdryfilter.com told me the best thing to use for drilling acrylic is an ordinary wood hole saw, but just don't let the thing get too hot or it will melt the plastic.

Well, spring semester is over and it's now time to start devoting more time to the reef. I'll be posting pix too.

The smallest of these pumps, which is about 500 +or- gph, dosen't have a built-in fan.

I'm going to search through my dad's barn this weekend and see if I can find some of the hole saws he says are in there.
