the first time i got live rock.. i was soo scared to touch it with my bare hands because i was scared id find scary worms or other creatures in there.. i didnt have gloves at the time, so i grab plastic sandwich bags and put them on my hands to touch the rock.

Anybody got any statistics on just how deadly our hobby is? There must be at least hundreds of thousands of people with aquariums in their homes; how many have perished while tending to their tanks?

I probably stand a better chance of dying in a car accident on my way to the LFS around the corner than from my reef.

To date, I have never heard of an RC member dying in this hobby. Steve Pro did have this pic in an article on Mycobacterium infection in a reefer-

Not so pretty but it wasn't lethal.

There are many hazards, but a properly maintained aquarium has VERY little chance of being deadly. Hazardous, sure. Open cuts, thin skin touching "hot" corals, getting stung by a fish or bristleworm, getting bit by a fish, getting scratched, getting your hand crushed by tumbling rock, getting pinched by crabs, tripping over unkept wires, water spills, etc. You're more likely to strain your back picking up a 5g bucket of water then you are to be taken to the hospital for any malignant or benign pathogen.
