Think of it this way. If you pay the 100.00 now you can have the vega. If you buy the SOL and change your mind its 250.00 per SOL to upgrade to Vega.
I think the option to have 20 channels of control (once the director is out), 5 watt white LEDs, sleeker design (not as tall as the SOLS) and to have better spread (for me) was worth it IMO. Quote:

They do not get hot at all. The fans do a good job keeping temps down. In addition to the making sure the fan is unobstructed, you need to make sure the sides of the Vega's heatsink are open as well. If I remember correctly, the fan blows down and out the left and right sides of the heatsink, so you need to make sure that path is clear. 5" AWL should work just fine, and I'd bet you would be fine with just three. |

Personally, I went with the color as I wanted as complete a spectrum as possible. If you follow any of the DIY LED threads, the latest generation of builds are adding colors other than white and blue to more closely mimic the spectrum of the popular MH and T5 bulbs. Even if you go with the Vega Blues though, you will still be able to upgrade the pucks to that of the Color, but your total costs will be higher than if you went with the Colors from the beginning. |

This is more of a Vega thread, but many folks here have experience with the Sols as well. I think one Sol is enough for that tank, but given the Sol has tighter optics than the Vegas, you'll need to mount it up higher around 10-12" above the water. You will want to start low with the intensities in order to properly acclimate your corals, if you have any. I'd start at 30% for all LEDs and increase by 5% every 5 days or so. |

qfirsco,
I'm starting to think the same as you. I also use the Easy Setup mode, which maybe causing my lunar cycle not to work properly. If anyone has their lunar cycle working like it should, a written step by step outline or short video clip, would be greatly appreciated so much. Thanks again, Randy |

ok so heres a couple of videos of the shimmer effect
disclaimers first, I've not cleaned the tank for a couple of weeks due to my operation, so the glass and sandbed is a mess....also the camera struggles to get the light level correct so its looking more blue/brighter than it is... 100% all LEDs http://s890.photobucket.com/albums/a...024_103005.mp4 and this is 100% without reds and Greens http://s890.photobucket.com/albums/a...024_103112.mp4 |

Vega colors all the way. I had the cheap china LEDs on before with no green or red in them. Kinda washed out the colors of some of the things in tank, but with the vega colors everything looks great. Reds and purples really stand out now.

Are there only 8? It looks like each timer will only control one color? Is so, and I use 6 to ramp up and turn all the lights on, how do I turn them off?

To shut colors down, I assume you set the intensity to 0%? Does the ramp time ramp it down? I'm going to write my program out, then see if I have firther questions before I try to set it up. Still need to update firmware first. Please tell me if any of the above is wrong. TIA

HELP! *URGENT*
I just updated the firmware for the new controller through AI support site, and now the wireless option doesn't work and the controller doesn't even recognize my VEGA. Now my light fixture is completely useless as it is PERMANENTLY OFF (the Disco Mode works if I click the red button on the fixture..) Any help? or anyone have the old firmware, let me know!!!!! |

Hold down the red button on the vegas for 10 seconds to reset them. The controller should then pair.

Yes, the Vegas need to forget their previous association to a controller. The above resets the Vegas and should then allow the controller to find and pair with them. |

Help with Manual Timer Setup
Spent some time playing with the Manual Timer Setup and I just don't get it! Here's what I do: I first go into Timer Setup (Easy) and set a Sunrise, Sunset, and Ramp time. I then set MAX and Nite intensities for each LED color.
The way I understand it, the easy timer setup is then supposed to automatically create timers for me, right? When I go into Timer Setup (Manual), I see nine timers created, but what's confusing me is that all nine timers are set for White. Shouldn't there be timers setup for the rest of the colors, too? I must be missing something! |
