![]() But when you do start, I'll be paying attention! I've thought about replacing my 125 planted tank with a 180 and plumbing it in with the rest of the system as an unsafe reef fish habitat ![]() ![]()

Yes, that is silly talk. Who needs woodwork when you have a reef to photograph?!
![]() I should revive that old poll yet again. I stated long ago it would take 1000 votes for me to finally pursue it, and I think we are well over 600 away from that ever happening. ![]() |

My Calcium reactor is about 50% empty, and I'm guessing I'll have to clean it out and refill it soon. I checked my Log, and I just filled it up July 10th. That wasn't even 5 months!

http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...5&pagenumber=1 The secondary tank won't be large, as it is something to see when you first walk in. I hope it is a good idea, honestly. I was doing some measurements, and I think 24" wide and 16" front to back will be good enough. I'm not sure about height yet, because of the angled front. If you recall the light fixture I have over my prop section, I have an extra that would work nicely over this other tank. It has a 150w DE (double ended) MH (metal halide) bulb. |

I've been putting it off for far too long, as I didn't want to know the answer. Still, it had to be done. Water tests.
pH 8.21 Temp 80.8F Salinity 1.027sg ORP (297 - very questionable) Alkalinity 9.6 dKH Calcium 450ppm Phosphate .03ppm Magnesium 1360 Nitrate 5ppm Not too bad, after all. Whew! Something is wrong with the pH probe of my Aqua Controller. I just calibrated it with some 7 and 10 solution, and it still says my tank's pH is 8.48 and I know that isn't true. My Pinpoint pH Monitor was calibrated as well, and it says 8.21, and the same solution checked the pH controller for the Calcium Reactor and it was dead on at 7.0 So, I think the false pH reading on the Aqua Controller is giving me a false reading for ORP. It isn't that it matters that much as both numbers are just numbers that I check daily for consistency, but it would be nice if they were the truth. |

the temp. probe is the basis for the other probes. Try soaking the pH probe in vinegar and brushing it off with a toothbrush. Also check its connection to make sure that it isn't loose or corroded.

I have a new pH probe in my backups, but I'd like to open that when this one is officially kaputt. I posted in Curt's forum, but he'll reply when he has time.
I use Salifert for my water tests. |

I have two conductivity probes that keep getting plated and I can't seem to get it to stop. I worked on that problem for a couple weeks and gave up to deal with business stuff. I'll get back on it soon...Curt feels that it is stray current causing the plating.

Today, a new DFWMAS member came over to get a Devil's Hand frag. He asked if I had anything else to share. His tank is 1.5 years old, and he has MH lighting. Basically, ready to delve into the SPS world with the rest of us.
![]() I forewarned him that I've had red bugs and acropora-eating flatworms, but he wasn't worried. I didn't really want to give him a twig, so I looked at the one piece I figured he'd be proud of. ![]() ![]() Here it is: ![]() ![]() And here's another view of some of it, in the foreground of the purple coral. ![]() Let's wish him success. ![]() |

Wow! I need to come visit and pretend I don't have any SPS. JK That was very generous of you.

No, just a spec of it. Here's the parent colony. The piece I fragged is in the upper left corner of this picture.

Marc the Philanthropist. what a guy. I wish I had enough SPS colonies to do that. I totally believe that you get out of this hobby what you put in. I'm just at the point where I can give back. great job marc.
