I have my ati bubblemaster 200 running for 48 hrs and no NOG, getting worried about my fish and sps corals, might have to reinstall the euro reef for safety.

skimmer is running in 7 inches of water and kept stable by my tunze osmolator???????? on 100 gallon with 12 fish and about 20 corals

BM150 - 30 hour update after 1st collection cup cleaning

After the first collection cup cleaning, it took around 4 hours for the first drop of skimmate to hit the bottom of the collection cup. Skimmate lighter greenish-brown today.

Nice pics Paul. How does the 200 compare with the APF 600?

Hi Paul,

you can reduce the breakin time of the skimmer by rising the pump in hot water.
Sometimes there is a fatty film on the o-rings of the pumps. This fat or remains of the production is the only reason, why your skimmer dont started to prduce NOG immediately.
I checked your skimmer on the picture and your skimmer looks good. You just need to rise it in hot water or give BM more tome to break in.

Thanks,
Oliver

I have seen the bright green skimmate a few times. Every single time the person was using Kent Essential Elements.

Just give it a little bit more time, I would do like oliver suggested and soak in hot water for a spell.
Keep us informed. I bet in a couple weeks you'll have forgotten about the H and S.

Great reviews Sang/Christine and everyone else. I'm thinking of getting a 150 just to play with. I just ordered some more stuff from Greg today, I should have had him throw one in the box.

That cracks me up to here. A few years back when I got my first high end skimmer (2x1260) I'll never forget putting in Kent essential elements one night. The cup was empty - and in the morning it was BRIGHT green. Like lime jello. I know I posted it cuz it was bizarre. I have the pix, you wouldn't believe it - especially since it was purple when it came out of the jug. I did it again a few weeks later and same result.

BM150 - 60 hour update after 1st collection cup cleaning

I cannot believe what I saw when I stopped by tonight to snap a final photo of this guy. There was no dosing of additives during the last 3 days and no dark greenish brown skimmate, just brown. Maybe the Kent Marine Essentials Elements really does have something to do with the green coloring. I was told that this morning, frozen mysids and Prime Reef cubes were fed to the tank again. From the photo, it definitely looks like the skimmer has kicked in past the break in period. The 2nd collection cup cleaning was done while I was there as it was really too full... within 20 minutes, the first drop of skimmate hit the bottom of the cup. This BM150 is obviously undersized for the 180g fish only tank as filling the cup every 2-3 days is overwhelming this small guy. Skimmate is very wet even though its been set to try to skim drier. Well, Ed has decided not to keep this unit as his evaluation is finished, onto the BM200. Anyone interested in a 1 week old BM150 that works really well? I wouldn't put it on anything bigger than a 100g though.

No, definitely not. My H&S gets much darker and thicker stuff than this. I'm happy with my skimmers, but this skimmer has definitely been exciting to observe.

Oliver, I am on the list to get the one of the next shipment of the BM250s and I have a quick question. Since I am putting my sump together I wanted to plan how high I should set the baffel for the skimmer section. How high should the water level be set (ie: what is the lowest setting on the adjustable output)? I want the skimmer to have the right water level without having to put it on a stand, but at the same time not have a waterfall (lol). Thanks & I'm looking forward to getting the skimmer.

I wish I was a rookie

I wish I was a rookie and could have said that I did not run it in my bathtub for eight hours with vinegar and hot water, but I can't. That was the fist thing I did, I woke up this morning and no skimmate, so, in went the euro reef and now the bubblemaster is in my bathtub again, my wife is, " no not again!!", she doesn't understand why a skimmer needs a bath, she will never understand, So tomorrow morning, it's going back in the sump, and I will update pics on how things are going,

I'm not giving up yet!!

Youcandoit, thanks for the photos and info on the 150, that was very informative.

You say the BM 150 is to small for the 180 because it fills the cup to fast with dark skimmate?
IF that is the only reason isn't that kind off judging the skimmer backwards. That kind of saying, a lesser performing skimmer would be better suited for a bigger tank because it does not fill the cup as fast.

I think I no what your saying that emptying the cup every 2 or thee days would get old. But IMO that's no way to judge or size a skimmer. To me that would indicate it is better than its rating not less than its rating. Maybe the cup it should come with drain.

Is their another reason other than filling the cup to fast? I may have misunderstood

how big is the BM150 cup?:

I would try muratic acid 10:1 with water. It well work much better than vinager.
Every time i used vinagar i still had to wait for a few days till it really started working.

Well Fliger, you can now run it side by side with some of the skimmers you own and give an professional assessment. Ed says that he can get it out Thurs or Fri.

RJ - I don't know the size of the collection cup as I never measured the skimmer. Hopefully, Fliger can give more details when he takes the unit over.
