Hello everyone, I'm Jon, I'm recently retired and have decided to take up a hobby to keep myself occupied. I was given a 75 gallon tank w/ stand as a gift and have been reading a lot of material but it here is so much info out there that it is very confusing. I would love to hear any and all suggestions about where to start.. I haven't started getting anything for it yet so any help is appreciated.

Just started my tank up on new years day. Heck of a resolution huh! Im already addicted to this EXPENSIVE hobby! Have a 56 gallon reef with a 20L sump/refuge. Ive always got lots of questions and this site usually tries to answer some of them. Everytime I look something up I see mixed reviews. Guess thats what makes it a hobby. Got a few corals going and a few fish (pictures attached).

Maybe you can point me to the right direction and let me know which pet store you like in London and if we have a club or something for trade or buy or just look at amazing setups, fish and corals... I usually get my supplies from South western pet centre (Dundas st store) or I order in via incredible aquarium out in Hyde park . I only shop at big als online when they have their 50% off sales otherwise I find them over priced.

South western will order in anything you need and they do price match vs other stores in the city. Talk to their fish guy he is very knowledgeable as is dean (I think that's his name) the boss. They are helpful.

Incredible aquarium is a good place for corals, inverts and fish they too can order in a lot, Google them they have a good website and Bill is a good guy very knowledgeable.

As for clubs in London there is one but I'm not associated with them so I don't have any of their details.

I'm new to this fascinating hobby and am glad there is so much info here to read. I'm geating ready to try my first saltwater setup and will be using the vast knowledge contained in these forums to help.

This is my second venture into this fascinating hobby as I was involved early on (1970 thru 1980) but left it as life got in the way as it usually does! LOL! For my wife this is her first attempt at aquarium keeping, but since we're both now retired we figured we'd have plenty of time to keep up with it!
I am amazed at the amount of technical/mechanical improvements, as well as our understanding of the biological processes occurring in our systems! The choice of sessile inverts is absolutely outstanding, with my interests leaning towards the many, almost unbelievable Chalices, while my wife enjoys the commensal relationships between Goby/Shrimp and Clowns/Anemones. We're already making plans for our next, larger version!

Thanks a lot Dave! You are awesome! I called Bill at Incredible Aquarium on Hyde Park and I got 3 mexican turbo snails and a scarlet reef hermit today. I was in awe when I saw the (a)mount of corals he has in the warehouse...

Wife decided we needed a tank on the half wall between our living room and dining room.....so down the rabbit hole I go. Got a deal on a 55 gallon Top Min tank at Petsmart that had no box so now the water and salt are mixed, the sand is in the bottom (forgot to rinse) so waiting for the tank to settle and clear. Got my dry rock coming from the keys and live rock to be picked up from Richard at TBS this Saturday. Looking forward to getting "back into it"

Hi I'm new to the hobby I have just bought a Goniapora and another coral they both don't open up why and what should I do?
I have got to sun flower corals they both open up when it's feeding time.
Ps I have got a 300Gallon tank with a Red SEA C-skim 1800

With 3 jebao pumps 1 is a wp 40 and the other two are RW 20 and RW 15 for the flow maybe too much flow?

Evening, good late night (least it is where I am) to everyone. I'm super new to the hobby, always loved fish and aquariums but never really was in the position to get into the hobby. My guy has been keeping me involved in his tanks and his love for the hobby as much as he can but problem is we both have very differing tastes in what we like in a reef. So seriously considering finally going for it with a tank all my own. Would love some input on major mistakes first timers make so I can try to avoid some disasters. I'm a long way put from actually starting but feel that's a good thing giving me the time to learn what I need to know and get a better knowledge base than just "helping" with the guys project.

Hi My name is George..(Live on Staten Island)..I had my first reef 30 gal going for years and had to shut down during a renovation. Starting back now after years and see new equipment and concepts. Has anybody dealt with the "Bullet Proof Reef system"? I bought rock from them and will be buying Grunge... I'm also looking for a 37 gal tank but want something better then Petsmart. Any Recommendations? Thanks and looking forward to learning from you all at Reef Central

I am running a 75g Bow front with a 15g wet dry filter sump, AQUATOP MR-20 Multimedia Reactor, Coralife 05271 Super Skimmer with Pump, EHEIM Ecco Pro External Canister Filter, Cascade® 1000 Canister Filter for up to 100 Gallon, Seachem Purigen, Boyd Enterprises Chemi-Pure 11-Ounce Blue,Seachem PhosGuard, Acurel LLC Economy Activated Filter Carbon Pellets, Gulfstream Tropical AGU00522 Ista Surface Skimmer, Aquatic Life LED Aquarium Light Fixture, 48-Inch and ecoxotic LED that was on my 29 Nano that I striped and reconfigured the light to fit an old reflector I have that is 48". Now is this over kill ?

Greetings everyone,

I am a newbie to RC and saltwater. I was in the Navy and now using the gi bill to go to college for engineering at RIT in NYS. I have been learning a bunch from my roommate who had started a nano reef in his room about 6mo ago. I am looking to learn alot more over the next few months from the forums and by helping him maintain his tank. Hopefully I can start my own reef, in a few months, after I'm more prepared, have found some good bargain gear and scrapped up enough salt up off the roads.
