Yes! I hope people will continue to post nicely! Hey BTW. please so tell more about feeding produce. I am very interested. I read the above posts, but am a bit nervous to just throw banana chunks in the water. Just wash and slice?

some veggies like brocholi I think you boil them first to soften them up IMO you should be very selective of how much and how often--just the occasional treat its not like your making vegetable soup for them ![]() What I have been feeding for about 3 months now is silversides They are a frozen minnow which you can either chop up or feed whole to the anemone. The advantage of this food is that it the fish are been feed the guts in all which are loaded with fish oil and vitamens that lack in flake food ect.

I tried silversides, and they would spit them out whole! I gave $15.00 to our local trash dump! She seems to like aquid, chopped. Since the move they are at the bottom of the tank ( thier choice) I hope they move up higher soon. I am 5'2 and reaching the bottom, even with tongs, is tough. So, a once a week treat of fruit.

Tswifty, the yellow headed jawfish can be kept in a small aggregation of like 3. They are not aggressive, but I guess I could see them either stealing, or wanting share against the gobies' will. I would think that there is enough room in a 90 gallon for all of them. As far as maxima clams go, or any tridicana clam for that matter. The clam has the ability to get just about all of its needs from photosynthesis even at a very young age. Apparently (as I've been told by people like mbuna, and at least one or two others) there is a misconception that one must supplement the clams diet with phytoplankton when it is younger, or under some certain size like 3". I know people still do add phytoplankton, but I don't know that it does anything more than just help the clam grow faster(?). Cool thing is he, or someone else, had a couple of links to scientific papers that had studied whether or not the clams were able to get all of their needs met from photosynthesis at really young ages. Very interesting read but unlike the always prepared Capn' I don't have a link ![]()

...and to boot, NanoGurl did a great job summarizing everything thus far in her first post after the split. So any newcomers could get up to speed rather quickly. Awesome idea ![]() http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...=&pagenumber=1 |

Thanks for the information, I have just heard that Maxima Clams are difficult to keep and was wondering why. I have some great shelves in my rockwork where I would like to put some, but am a little nervous to do so because of their difficulty. Also ,Maximas come in such bright colors. ![]() My first clam addition will more than likely be a Derasa clam if I can find one with coloration I like. However if I order online, then it becomes worthwhile to order 2 or 3 at once due to the high cost of shipping. |

Tridicana clams aren't that hard to take care of. I had a maxima in my 10 gallon a few years ago under 9.6 watts of PC and it did wonderfully...until my (fighting?) conch decided to come out of the sand and eat the crap out of it. It was soo weird to watch, but unfortunately I came in when it was too late to see the conch destroying the clam. Needless to say that conch had his up and comings. The next day he went back to work to become trigger fodder.
They aren't that hard to care for. They just LOVE light. Really that's about it. They don't need that much flow, they don't need many other supplements (but they do suck up the calcium), and don't need that much food either. I would think a Derasa clam would do great in your tank, but I wouldn't be scared of the other types. A maxima should do great in your tank, and maybe even a crocea but I do know that the croceas like to be abused by light. I would try to find mbuna, (I'll try to remember the other guys) and get his opinion. He seemed to be a wealth of information about them (not that people who have currently graced this forum aren't, but I know I've seen mbuna in many clam threads).

A Stombus alatus (fighting conch) will not attack a clam. It was probably just cleaning up the mess as the clam was dying. Sorry yuo fed it to your trigger fish.
