"This summer I would like to ship some of this stuff to some".

I propose myself as a "beta tester"

Well then, in a few months, PM or write to me and I will send you some mud, Read my disclaimer first though. I think I could ship this stuff priority mail very cheap.
I am curious how it will do in another tank.
As I said I have a container of it now and it has been on my workbench for a couple of months. I just have some snails in there, no filtration or airation. I just add some fresh water. It is crystal clear and the snails even reproduced

i still plan on replacing my un-miraclous miricle mud from my fuge with some natural mud, so if you decide you want to try some louisiana gulf coast salt marsh mud, let me know,

HA, HA,

There is just something about the old pin up art. I don't know, I just love it.

Maybe it is the gender of model.

See..... I got side tracked, I had to edit.

Yea the soaking is what threw me there, I was hopping you had found some that didn't mess with the PH.

Thanks for the reply, Paul. When you talk of mud, are you talking about the silty sediment found in shallows or tide pools? I've added sand and rock from a reef, but never did the mud thing. I could see how it would be beneficial. I'm going snorkling this weekend (local reef about 50 meters offshore) to get some "diversity." I usually grab some sand and a rock, place it in the tank and hope something positive happens. Next time I go to the reef, I bring the rock back. At first I was nervous about adding something from the local waters to my tank. However, nothing bad has ever happenned. I may go find some salty "mud" this weekend and throw a container of it in the tank, too. Your inspirational powers have us hunting mud!

Trigeek where you live you could just grab some rocks or sand.
Anything you find underwater in the sea would have diverse bacteria on it. Here up north we could do the same thing I just feel that mud (which a lot of northern waters have) have more bacteria in it because of all the organic matter. The stuff I have is mostly dead grass, shells and mud. It stays clear no matter what I do because of the bacteria. The stuff you get is great also because you can collect it more often. We are loooking for diversity, not just numbers. Go collect rock, sand, bottles, oldsmobiles or anything else you find underwater.

I just found something wierd in my tank, a little wierder than the wierd things I usually find. I say a gobi biting this tiny thing and it looked like one of those tiny astria starfish that I have hundreds but on closer inspection it is something different and it almost floats.
I sucked it up and put it in a small container. The thing is less than 1/4" long and is sphirical. It is composed of four polyps, one on each side. I don't have any corals that look like it and I have never seen it before. It was just a fluke that I saw the thing. It is now in a seperate container in the tank and I want to see if I can identify it.

It's a quarter inch, I doubt I can take a picture but I will try.
I was also thinking Oldsmobile

I'll be interested in seeing the picture also--I have an old hub cap off a 67 olds but it doesn't resemble that at all.

It will only eliminate nitrate if it is large enough such as the entire bottom of a tank and I think the grains have to be smaller like the size of rice. I don't think CC will hurt anything, it just will not help with water quality except maybe for converting ammonia using aerobic bacteria but live rock will be sufficient for that.
I agree. I would just run 7 or 8 inches of medium grade argonite and use it as a remote deep sand bed. This way it will be very effective at reducing your nitrates.

Yes, that is the theory.
I don't believe it but that certainly is the theory

OK it was not easy, I took this picture through a jeweler's loupe and 2 magnifying glasses all hand held, try that sometime.
Of course here the thing does not have the polyps extended because I sucked it up in a baster looking thing and put it in a tiny dish. make believe the polyps are extended as they do in the tank.
I Lied, it is an eigth of an inch, not a quarter.
What do you think the chances were of me finding this in a 6' long tank?

weird. it almost looks like a broken off piece of acropora or something. definitely not an oem oldsmobile piece. maybe aftermarket. what all do you have in the tank coral wise these days? is there any part of it that shows evidence of breakage?

I thought the same thing. Cool find though! Makes me wonder what other things are in our tank that we never see.

I only have a colt coral that looks nothing like it. It is not attached to anything and has polyps all around.

I went looking very closely with a baster looking thing and found another one in a bottle. It was in this bottle

It reminds me of one of my old girlfriends.
It looks real cool with the polyps extended because there is no base and it rolls around.
