What about the solar flare powered by Icecap?

What do you recommend for a combination of bulbs?
Normally driven, just good cooling and reflectors.

Solar FLare is overdriven.

Sunlight supply makes the Tek.

Grim,
First of all, thanks for all the help.

This is for a Nova Extreme 8x54 fixture for my setup which is: a basic; softies bottom, LPS middle, few easy level SPS top and possibly some clams on the rocks. 90 gal 48x24x18.

Started with:
Front:
Blue Plus
Super Actinic
Aquasun
Blue Plus
Aquasun
Blue Plus
UV 75/25
Blue Plus

Now with (Your suggestion for the best setup for lamp and critters):
Front:
Blue Plus
Super Actinic
Aquasun
Aquablue (put the Blue Plus back, was really white and bright)
Aquasun (put in Pro Color as suggestion from Reef Geeks)
Blue Plus
Aquablue
Blue Plus

This is the current setup with changes I made in the (). For the critters I want above, so keeping PAR, what would you change if I wanted some more blue? I'll pass on the clams if I have to. With the newest change, colors really pop but Duncan and Candy Cane 9" off base won't open anymore. Too intense? Would more blue pop even more and be less intense?

Thank you,

Do that. The Fiji Purple will add back in a little more blue that the 6500 K would have taken out. Not quite as much PAR but the look will be better

Due to having a nicely sized Tang, I have kept most of my live rock towards the middle/bottom 50% of the tank, in order to leave plenty of swimming room up top. Getting the light from my T5's down towards the middle/bottom half of my tank is important as I am keeping some SPS.

Would the new Aquaticnics 98% reflectors do a better job for my needs then the Ice Cap SLR's? Getting the light further down then the SLR's?

Thanks!
Just slightly. The only way I could justify the expense would be if you were going to take andvantage of the smaller reflectoer sized and cram an extra lamp in.

Has anyone used the Odyssea T5 fixtures? I was thinking of using a pair of 36" 4x39w fixtures on a 6 foot tank.

also, does anyone know what is a T6 bulb?

Since the fixture is only a 5 bulb, not a 4 or 6 like the 2 tek's I have, which bulbs should I use now since I'll have mostly sps and some acan's/chalices? Thanks again so much!

Joe
I've done some. A good T5 setup like the Aquactinics or ATI will match the output of a lot of 250 watt halide setups.

Sanjay did some measurements but hasn't released the results yet.

Don't waste your money on the Oddysea stuff.

T6 VHO isn't bad but the selection of lamps is pathetic.

Grim, you're the bomb. I tried to piece together a bulb combo from this thread to go into a 6x54w ATI Powermodule. SPS tank, 48x18x18. Any comments/suggestions/overhauls would be greatly appreciated.

So what is your opinion on overdriven T5 light systems?

What bulb configuration would you use for the constellation since it's only a 7 bulb system. You've talked me out of the Nova but I do like the idea of the Solar Flare because of wattage. How much of a difference does overdriven lamps provide vs non overdriven. I am looking more for coral color than crazy growth. It's mainly going to be Zoanthids, Acans, Blastos etc.

So it's down to the constellation and the solar flare just wanted your advice and what 7 bulb configuration you recommended.

Thanks for your time dealing with all of these questions it's a real great thing you are doing for everyone.

Hey Grim,

Thats only a 7 bulb config, hoping to get 8 using IceCap reflectors. Need a good 8 bulb config with Fiji Purples.

Thanks

Hey Grim,
From what I am reading, I can run 3 60" T5's on one Icecap 660? So would 9 60" bulbs be OK for a 210 gallon tank? 72x24x29. I guess that I will have to push every other one 6" to the left or right?

How high above the water level are you guys mounting your lights? I have a 125g.....72x18x21 I am thinking of putting T5's on and wanted to know about the mounting height requirement. The tank would be bare bottom with mainly SPS and clams. I am looking into retro fitting 2- 6x39w fixtures.

Hola T5'ers.

Im running a standard 120g tank (4x2x2) with 2 400w Reeflux 12ks. I'd really like to switch to T5s to save on energy costs, ballast, chiller, air conditioner etc. I've got an sps dominated tank with sps all the way to the bottom of the tank.

Currently, I have an icecap 660 ballast just running 4 NO's for color after the MH's turn off, so I could reuse that for some bulbs.

What would you recommend I get to retrofit my canopy and have lighting similar to what I have now? Possible at all?
