Count down begins... 3

Added what I think is an acan? LFS had a huge colony and couldn't sell it for the price they had to get to make even a little money so they chopped it up. They had a bunch of small frags and after a long time of selling off one here and there they finally added the rest to their $20 and under frag tank. I think it's a good deal. They were about 1-3 heads each. I grabbed two 3 head peices.

Extra pic of my lyretail turning male and has been for quite some time now.

Done. I have the Kuiter's leapord wrasse in the main display tank. Early enough before the Potter's gets up and hope they get along ok. Also, added is a Sunburst Fathead anthia. I'll try and get some pictures later when the lights are on.

Everyone seems to have settled down. Posted some in the leopards wrasse primer thread. Right after introduction of the Kuiter's the Potter's teamed up like a pair and they swim all over the place together. However, the Potter's took a instant distaste for the bipartitus that I have left and chased her into the sand. The second day they seem to have come to a peace agreement and the bipart stays to the right side of the tank. I was nervous that I would have to remove the bipart before the Potter's knocks her off like he did with the larger bipart that I had.

I did have a nice little algae outbreak most likely due to the Pukani dry rock. There's a nice thread I think in the Chemistry Forum on using Lanthanum Chloride to help cure the dry rock and help strip out the PO4. Of course I didn't do that and just rinsed quick and put in my tank. Even if you don't cure it the rock is awesome and worth the algae outbreak if you are patient enough to wait it out. Seems to have come on pretty quickly but is also quickly starting to recede again. I'll credit the carbon dosing I'm doing using vinegar to help speed that along. I'm up to about 88ml a day.

On some other exciting news. My LFS invited me to attend an opening ceremony of the Omaha Zoo's revamped aquarium that they have been working on all winter. Will get a tour behind the scenes and first look at the new exhibits.

I'm also going to be getting a nice little Boston Whaler 13 in another month. It was my grandfathers and means the world to me to be able to get it. It will be fun to take to all the lakes around here. I really look forward to teaching my kids how to fish and ski.

Posted this in the leopard wrasse primer but thought I'd share this here too.

Got to see my Potter's tonight and looking just stunning under just blue LEDs. The orangish/yellow is what I normally get to see during the day wiht some blue highlights getting darker toward the tail but under actinics he looks totally different with the blue glowing metalic like and the rest of the both looking black. Kind of like he's wearing a tron outfit on.

I took the best pics I could but you just don't get that shiny blue effect. Like the lyretail in this first picture also has eyes that glow blue as well with the blue strip under the mouth.

Man just so wish you could really see the glowing shinining neon effects on him. He's by far my favorite fish in the tank right now even though he is a butthead.

Dang it. I can't get a picture of my kauderni cardinals. The male has a mouth full of babies. He's just hanging out in the back of the tank behind some rocks. The cool thing is the female is chasing away all the other fish.

I've been super busy at work and haven't had much time to get some updates here in. I'm still uploading a bunch of pictures and videos from my tour of the new Omaha Zoo's Aquarium. So, I should have those posted soon.

I got all the pictures uploaded and working on the video's now which I have quite few of.

In the behind the scene's tour I got to see all the equipment that they use and it's really not a whole lot. They use basically the same things we all do.

Equipment used that I remember:
- very large protein skimmers basic design
- lots and lots of ozone
- lots and lots of bio-balls and have a cleaning schedule for them
- GFO reactors
- large water pumps for circulation
- MH lighting (LEDs on their new Jelly tanks)
- QT tanks
- Jelly breeding tank
- Live food and phyto culture area

Protein skimmer:

Skimmers and live food breeding

Phyto/Roto

Several GFO Reactors and view of cat walks:

More GFO:

That's the pictures I have from above and I have some video too which I'm working on getting uploaded. Here's some pictures walking through the floor of the aquarium which I have a lot of video of too getting uploaded.

They added some video up top to the penguin exhibit

They had a penguin walking around during the event too with all the people. He was really cool and very curious. Surprised he did so well with people.

This is a new crab display with several long leg japanese spider crabs in with some whale bones.

I really didn't take pictures or video of a lot of the stuff that wasn't new but I love the tide pool. It's been there a while and all the fish are getting huge.

Cuttle Fish:

Some kind of freshwater fish?

mini-Shark

New eel tank with some cleaner shrimp in there with them

Behind a couple doors is the entry way into where the new big conference room is. There's a big tank between it and a hallway separating it from the rest of the place. More in videos to come.

Looking through the tank into the conference room on the other side:

The new Jellyfish tanks which they are breeding many of them and cultivating their own food for the jellyfish.

This is another tank that's not new but one of my favorites as it's one of the oldest set of fish they have with an ancient blue tang that is easily 20+ years old

I think that's all the pictures I have. I didn't take pictures of all the exhibits but most of the new ones. I have a lot more video and some video of some of the new tanks I didn't get pictures of too. I'm working on getting all those uploaded and will get those posted soon.

Time to get some video's posted. I'll post the HD link to the youtube video but if you watch the embeded video you'll have to switch it to HD by clicking on the gear looking icon. Looks much better in HD.

Some of these are not new displays but I liked them and took videos anyway.

Sorry lots of motion.
