That damage is looks of being dropped which is not uncommon for shipping companies. That is why is it important to open and inspect before accepting no matter what you get in when larger items like this. Refusal on the spot is a guarenteed shipping insurance victory for the company almost.



As for the tank I would not worry as much about it. You would be able to see distress signs. Glass cracks and such and any chips would be visible without concern.


This is a shipping issue though and not a product one. A shipping claim should be submitted and new stand sent out. And damage is not normally easily seen on the packaging as boxes will bend whereas the product will not. Make sure to open any items.

inspect <> looking at outer box. Sorry for your troubles but taking a look and saying that looks fine is not inspection. One must open and actually look at the item in hand. Again it stinks but this is something you shoudl do no matter what company you order from in the future.


As for returning you will will most likely be responsible for the return shipping and lose out on the amount that it took to ship to you which is typical with all items you purchase that have free shipping.

Thank you. I will keep that in mind when I have large items delivered in the future.

Thats fine. Might as well return it and go for a better product from a more reputable company. If anyone has done it before, could you please let me know how you did it? Since its a large package, I am guessing an LTL company is involved.

The last part I semi disagree with. the tank and stand will not be of better quality but the all in one portions might. Most flip out the skimmer of the red sea and change out other items in the sump area like is done with the PNP.

I think the pumps and such with the red sea are of better quality but you are paying for that.

I have paid $1200 for this SC Aquarium as well, and got terrible crap for it. The reefer costs $1200 too and has better quality and service.

Lol for the ones thinking Red Sea doesn't have damaged deliveries as well... I know a guy in my local club who recieved the s650 tank damaged in two consecutive occasions(glass and stand). That is just the way stuff getting trucked around are subjected to. I would give SC a call and try to communicate with them the issue first and maybe they would negotiate a solution?

I learned my "didn't check the shipment before signing" lesson a long time ago. Valuable lesson and when my SCA tank and stand arrived I had the driver wait while I unboxed and inspected everything before signature. Anything less and the shipping company always wins. With that being said, we are all human and companies make mistakes. The difference with SCAquariums is Steve goes above and beyond to give a reasonable resolve with great CS. I can't speak for others but I definitely recommend talking with SCAquariums/Steve directly before claiming a inferior or poor quality product is the result of a damaged tank stand in shipping. Regardless, I hope anyone reading through this thread learns from your experience and fully inspects their deliveries before acceptance. Good luck with your future decisions and happy reefing!

I hate it when you are right soulpatch .. Steve definitely cares about his customers. Just had a chat about this with him. Talking to the main guy does make a difference. Plus I am totally fatigued and want to start this asap.

I am replacing the damaged door. The problem is the top where the tank will be placed. The back-left corner is damaged.

Any tips on how to fix that? Will upload pictures later to show the damage

I agree with all on everyone's opinions regarding Steve. I haven't bought anything yet, but I have went back and forth through emails and he has always been responsive and helpful. Main reason I will go with them when I go to by my next tank. Plus if I were him I would be all over this this thread.

Does anyone use the filter pads that comes with these aquariums? If not, do you just use filter floss in its place where the water from the overflow comes in?

KZ ask Steve if he can send out a sample of the stain or a piece of the veneer depending on what they used for your stand. Looking at the pics you only have to worry about the one side. The top and back will not be seen and to seal those I would put a thin layer of silicone just to ensure no seeping of potential spills. Though if you get the stain just do it all.

If veneer I would take a blade and cut out the section impacted and replace with a new piece. You wil see the slightest seam but it would only be visible to you since you know it is there and being in the back with the lower light hitting the stand I bet it would be invisible.


I too needed a new door for my wood stand. There was the smallest imperfection in the door and I had asked for some stain to cover it. Steve said he was on it and in 2 days I had a new door instead with a hand written note saying he was sorry for the trouble and to send back the damaged door with the included shipping slip.

I rarely stand up for vendors as they should be in the business to make a customer happy but there are a select few who have gone above and beyond and as such I defend them. BRS and SC are really the only two in the aquatic world that are on my list as both have gone out of their way to help when something went wrong even if it was my fault.

Crap happens with everyone. I think you have cooled off now as you were understandably mad, depressed, and anxious all at the same time. Hopefully the convo with Steve quelled your nerves and you guys get this worked out.

I just added salt, so excuse the cloudy tank, but I wanted to share some pictures.

50 gallon cube drilled with 3 holes for a Herbie, SCA oak plywood stand and SCA stock sump.

I painted the interior of the stand a gloss white, added LED strip lights that come on when the door opens as well as a magnetic door lock to keep the kids out. All of the equipment is mounted in the stand with raceways for cable management. All the power supplies and Vortech battery backup is mounted to the back of the stand.

I've had a lot of fun with this build and can't wait to get it cycled.

Damn I SOOOOO need to learn wire management from you guys...

I love LOVE LOVE my SC tank the only complaint is the big internal overflow. just cant seam to get my scape where i love it. that and my 2 large pices of LR make it kinda hard. I see others that I like, not that i hate mine just dont 100% love it yet. but we all same the same eh...

if i was to do it again I would have them drill for an external overflow..

Anyway, Steve will replace the door. I was more concerned about the stability of the tank on the stand. Steve said that it will be fine.

I have attached pictures of the damage. I hope that the foam between the tank and stand evens out the damage.

I bought a touch up marker to fix furniture scrapes from the move (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I will test it tomorrow in daylight to match color with the stand.

I think scraping off the damaged veneer and adding a new one might be over kill. Most damage is to the top and back of the stand, the visible side seems to be fairly less damaged, a touch up pen might work.

Any ideas or thoughts?

you can use either to seal technically but clear silicone will look a bit better.

Seeing those pics I would just use the touch up marker on that little spot and call it a day. It is so minimal and with it in the back no one will ever notice.

Yes the foam pad will take care of the top but I would still put either glue or silicone on it to seal the wood.

Ok so I put in some water resistant wood glue last night. A few minutes ago, I leveled the stand and put the tank on it. It looks good!

Now I need help with the plumbing. I've got the herbie/beanie design tank with three holes (overflow + return + emergency). I need help with the plumbing.

I've created a new thread for that and would really appreciate your help on setting it up.
