Makes sense. But I consider myself to have a pretty high load for a 125. 15 fish and a whole lot of coral. Seems like I should get a fair amount of skimmate.

Hey guys, I've been sitting here for a couple of hours reading this thread.
I purchased an RS-100 for my 90 AGA Megaflow that was set up on 1/23/06. It is a stock unit but seems to work fairly well. I have no fish in the tank yet, only about 80 pounds of live rock. I am waiting until the weekend of the 11th to remove the rest of the live rock from my 46 (About 40 lbs with excellent coralline) and 2 clowns as well. My question is this. I have the skimmer in water that is 7 inches deep. The water level remains steady in my 30 gallon sump. What level should I have the bubbles at so that I can get medium wet skimmate? I am waiting this amount of time because most of the rock was pre-cured except for about 40 pounds in the tank that was 3/4 curred. I intend to do a partial water change on Thursday and then move the 46 to the 90 on Saturday. Regards, Pat

you will want to experiment with it a little. I like the bubble level to be as high as it can be like in my pictures a couple pages back without overflowing into the cup. If that is too wet for you adjust down.
I think wet skimming is better than dry because you know you get 100% of everything you can. The drawback is you take a little extra water out too & it will require you to service more freq. |

Hello everyone
![]() I setup a ES6-1 yesterday and it looks like I got a good little skimmer for what I payed for it. Anyway the water level(with bubbles) inside the neck is fluctuating about 2" every 20 seconds or so. I can just sit there and watch it go up and down. It's allmost acting like there is an air lock somewhere or something but I can't figure out where. I did a little searching last night and couldn't come up with anything. Water level in that section of the sump is stable. Any ideas? thanks, Chris

That happens to me sometims when I finish cleaning the collection cup. All I do is remove it and make sure its screwed on right. That always fixes that for me. Also always make sure you have it screwed all the way down, dont overtighten it till the point where you will need to use excessive force to remove it next time you clean it. I usually just close the union and when it stops I just give it a quarter turn more.

I made the transfer yesterday. Took the other 38 lbs of established live rock from my 46 along with the 2 clown fish, took the blue damsels back to the local Reef store. All is well so far. Not much going into the skimmer so far. I am keeping the bubbles at about 1/2 inch from the top of the cup but not much in it at all. But the tank is new and I just added the fish so the bio load is tiny. I do have about 8 snails, 4 hermits and 2 crabs. So I guess I will just sit back and watch it work.
Regards, Pat

Does anyone know how an ASM modified Sedra 9000 would compare to the new Euro-Reef SP4 pumps? I have a ER 8-2 and was looking to upgrade from the SP3 (Sedra 5000) to SP4 (GenX), but it seems that I can get an ASM modified Sedra 9000 for a lot cheaper.

I was just curious. Can a 5-2 be in 12" of water with the gate valve mod? It also has the recirc. mod.
Thanks |
