Hello everyone,

I recently started the journey into reef keeping, I used to keep a planted aquarium. I thank all for the contributions that have made it easier to do this.

Thanks for the welcome

I'm Jeremy,
Fish are friends... Not food.

I've been in the hobby on and off for about 5 years... always learn something new when I start a new tank. Currently working on establishing a 150 gallon tall mixed reef. The tank will be combining my 55g mix and my 30 bow front. I have a ton of questions and have been skimming the site now for about 3 weeks daily.
Thanks again for the welcome and I look forward to utilizing your knowledge.

Hello Everyone!

I've been in the hobby for about 2 yrs now, and finally decided to become a part of the online community. I've been on this site and many others quite often in that time looking for advice and information, and I feel like I've finally gotten both my tank and my general knowledge to a point where I could consider myself a beginner/intermediate hobbyist. Anyways, I've added as much info about my tank as I could to my profile, and I'd very much like to hear some of the expert's opinions about what seems to be right or wrong with my setup. I know there's many different schools of thought, but I'd gladly accept any input!

Hello, I'm James
I figured I should properly introduce myself. I pan to get my first quality fish today and looking to get a pair of nemos. My nitrate last week was at 5ppm per my LFS , she suggested I'd get some ghost shrimp and wait one more week. So I did. One thing though, I cycled the tank with 2 Damsles which are in good health and very active, a friend have them to me. Should I consider getting rid of them? My set up is a Red Sea reefer 350
73g tank 18g sump bubble magus c7 and a small refugium. I'd like some easy to keep corals and invertebrates and cuc. Thanks everyone !!

New to the Hobby

Hi Everyone,

Just joined Reef Central and wanted to say hi. I'm new to the hobby grew up with saltwater tanks and wanted to start one of my own. I have a 24G NanoCube up and running. I purchased "the package" from TBS and have the first half in the tank and looking forward to picking up the send part in the next week or so.

I've read quite a few articles/books, however any general tips or advice is always appreciated!

Hello hello, someone coming over from the other side (freshwater planted). Really found myself not interested in the plants and FW fish. FW shrimp on the other hand.....

Anyway, looking to start up a 22g long (Mr. Aqua) with a 10 g sump and 3 g refug after I move in the summer, found that I was inspired by a certain 12 g long reef tank and am planning on stocking with zoas and mushrooms and 2 clowns.

On a personal note, I'm an electrical engineer, finishing off his graduate degree in robotics, and really want something I can sink my DIY hands into (including designing controllers, lighting, dosing, etc.).

New to RC, been keeping tanks on and off for 20 years+. In the mid 90's I had 3 135 gal in my basement- 1 reef, 1 fowlr, 1 with a pair of breeding Green Severums, 135 gal planted fresh up in my living room as well as a 65 gal reef in the living room.

Currently have a 10 gal nano reef, and a heavily planted 120 gal fw. Getting the itch to change the 120 to reef.

So I will hang around a while and see and read.

I've been here a while but it was all in preparation of starting a reef tank. I got my 20g setup (with 10g sump) going a couple weeks ago. I'm nearing the end of the cycle (using Bio-Spira) and getting some expected diatom blooms.

Hi! We are sooo, so new to this hobby. My husband, Mike, and I were gifted with a 20 year old sw 55 gallon whole system. We have lots of questions and for the most part are finding answers on the net and here on Reef Central. Thank you!

So far, the tank and all life in it have survived the move from friends home to ours (30 minute drive away) and Mike has already decided to upgrade to a 110 gallon. I'm in favor as I'd like to have a few more fish and coral.

In the meantime, can anyone please tell me what kind of anemone is hosting our maroon clown? Here's a pic:

Hello All,

I'm new to RC but have had various reef tanks over the past 6 years. I recently relocated to South Florida and started using RC. Currently I have a 10g setup with an AquaClear 50, Current Orbit LEDs, and a Jebao RW-4 (running on 12V).

My current inhabitants are:

Livestock:
Picasso Clown (Grade B)
Yellow Watchman w/
Tiger Pistol Shrimp
Emerald Crab
10 various colored Hermits
3 Astraea snails

Corals:
Xenia - 2 heads
GSP - 1 inch frag
Duncan - 1 head, 1 baby
Mushroom rock - Orange, Green, Blue/Green, Purple/Green
Assorted Zoa rock - currently 3 types

I don't plan to add any other livestock and only plan to add more zoas as time goes on.

Take care!

Starting the cycle on my first marine tank. 100G CADLights Artisan II w/30G sump. Time for patience...

Looking forward to learning a lot from all the folks at RC, and I also look forward to giving back to the forum as well.

New to reef central

Hey guys just a new guy getting back into the saltwater stuff after a lonh hiatus. I have a 90 gallon frsh water and last month started a 29 biobube. Started it with nutriseawater, live sand, and a bunch of live rock. Lights are stock but i picked up an aquaticlife 115 protein skimmer and it came with the stock filtration removed for the rack type system. Just picked up a jebao powerhead to replace the one i broke that came with. ( bought it used and it came with a bunch of extras.) i have the heater set at 78 but it runs hot with the lights on so i had to get a chiller. Being a nano i didn't like the hob types and opted for a chill solutions csxc-1 chiler. Picked up a bunch of nice zoas the other day for my first corals in the tank (some utter chaos, eagle eyes, and aog) plus one head of green candy cane. Had the cleaner crew for like a week (shrimp, hermits, and turbo snails) and they all seemd happy and healthy so spent a little $ on the zoas that i liked. They seem good after 5 days always opened up unless being touched by me accidentally . Happy to be a part of this site. Very informative

Hello, My name is Tim. I'm new to RC. I'm 44 years old and have had a tank since I was 9. About 13 years ago I had a fish only saltwater tank. Had it for about 4 years and with the 2007 hurricane storms, we lost power for over a week. No gens were to be found and I lost my whole tank. Disheartened, I went back to fresh. I now have a 65 gallon with African cichlids and recently started a 27 gallon with corals and a few fish. Love the excitement of the hobby and the beauty. My wife hates the dedication and time I put to it, but loves the results.
Just wanted to say hello and look forward to picking your brains when needed.
