thanks capn. I am going to sell my sailfin or find it a home when it is to big. But i think if i go with a trigger i am going to go with a blue throat trigger and the foxface i def want. That is the gold spot. I am not to sure about the angels just yet. And thanks for the other suggestions as well.

So I am looking for a couple of smaller fish that will not be so timid, and will actually swim around a little. They need to be reef safe, so no angels.

I was thinking about possibly adding a firefish, and/or a bangaii cardinal, but will they hide or will they swim around?
the firefish will swim near the bottom of the tank and the bangii cardinals will swim near the top. They are usually open swimmers as long as a rock is close by they can duck into

A flame hawk is a great fish because it perches on reef rock and sometimes on coral

Easily 5--you have lots of rock in there for them to stake out a territory and for them not to threaten the wrasses realestate

Btw the flow you have is great for the lps corals and softies. But the sps corals prefer a flow closer to 40 time the volume of the tank in gph

Yasha gobies--great choic--pretty fish--sometimes hard to find and more expensive then some other goby choices
They should be the first ones in the tank so they can stake out a territory before the wrasses are introduced.

Cardinals don't add movement. These just sort of "float" there and are quite boring, IMO. Firefish could be active swimmers but can also be skittish. They are KNOWN jumpers so a cover is a necessity.

Have you thought about:
Midas Blenny
Various wrasses (Six Line, Pink Streaked wrasse, some fairy wrasses )

Just my opinion.

What is a good algae eating tang for a 48" 55G tank? Other then a yellow tang.

Thanks in advance.

A tang wont really do well in a 55 gallon tank. Simply not enough swimming space. Any of the tangs will graze algea, but I highly reccommend not putting a tang in this tank.

Look into maybe a lawnmower bleeny

I had a lone blue eyed cardinal which I add to a 38 gal tank with three blue chromies. What a hoot--today the cardinal is swimming right along with the school of chromies and the chromies have excepted that.

Talking

Building a 150 gal + 50 gal sump + 20 gal refugium, mixed reef. I'd like to house the following fish if possible.

Fish:
1 Sohal Tang (added last, 3" specimen or less)
1 Swallowtail Angel/Flame Angel/Coral Beauty
2 Percula Clownfish (mated pair)
1 lawnmower blenny
1 mandarin dragonette (6 months in)
1 yellow watchman goby + pistol shrimp

Inverts:
2-3 Maxima clams
1 Bubble tip anemone
some sort of cleaner shrimps
+ others corals that I'm not decided on

In terms of size, i think i'll be ok on load. I know if i wanted to be more reserved, i'd go for a Naso tang instead of Sohal, but they are just so gorgeous! Will a Sohal terrorize the other fish on my list? Will there be enough pods to feed my blenny and mandarin? And will my small fish become anemone snacks? If possible, i'd like to add some medium sized fish to compliment the tank, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!

hi im just getting my set up together at the moment but was wondering for future refrence if it was possible to keep a mandarin in a 29 gallon tank with a 10 gal sump? if it is deemed too difficult i guess i'll go with a ywg/pistol shrimp combo. anyone know what is a good sand bed depth for them?

So I got my flame hawkfish yesterday. Today the percs are kinda picking on him. I think they just need to adjust to their new tank mate. Could I also get the yellow watchman or would it be to much for a 12g? What if I added a skimmer?

you will be alright if you do weekly 10-15 per cent water changes.
In a twelve gallon tank I would do the water changes by the one quart out one quart in method. That way you can keep all the water parameters consisitent.

We have a 95 Gallon tank with 83 lbs of live rock.

Currently have one clown and one six-line wrasse.
It will be a full reef tank.

Looking at adding:

1 more clown (smaller than the current one to hopefully avoid any problems)

Foxface rabbitfish or a yellow tang - can't make our minds up really, I'm wondering if the foxface will nip at corals?

Flame Hawkfish

Coral Beauty - apparently a bit of a hit and a miss with coral nipping

Green Chromi

Leafy FileFish - but I want to keep inverts so not sure about compatability

I saw a tiny bright pink fish in the LFS yesterday but forgot to ask the name - any ideas?

What do we think?

Cheers
