I collected some trumpetfish last week which get about 3' long, would you like me to ship you some for that tank? In a little while they will only have one fish to take care of

I took your advice and went to the asian market looking for salmon eggs. The only fish eggs they had were the tiny orange eggs they use to decorate the outside of sushi. I was looking at the list of ingredients hoping to see one...fish eggs, but that wasn't the case.

on the list was a plethora of things like salts and MSG, do you have the same stuff on you salmon eggs ?

There is nothing listed but it is written in Korean so I have no idea. They are fresh eggs in a plastic container which look like they were just squeezed out of a fish but I really don't know. I rinse them for about 10 minutes anyway so I would assume any of that would be washed off

Well a little salt won't hurt your fish. And they'd probably enjoy the MSG.

I just need to ask if any of my friends have any leftover. A lot of fishermen here save them to use as bait.

Here is a beautiful picture of my fan, and RUGF system which is that green container where water is pumped into to be shoved under the gravel and the algae trough, the white thing. This system is obviousely state of the art, especially the way the electrical cords hang in the water, it gives it character. Good thing this tank is in a wall and you don't see any of this. But, it is not meant to be a showpiece, it is meant to keep animals alive and healthy.

Not true, thats the beauty of the system. If (when) the fan falls into the water it becomes a powerhead capable of moving much of the water on to the floor.
It's a win win system.
I don't want no Sissy "safe" tank. Little girls have that. If there is no threat of electrocution, where is the drama? Where is the danger? A nice copper based piece of equipment hanging precariousely over the reef on string just screems out "class"

Oh and while I am on here I promise to never say anything detrimental about DSBs again. I have gotten a lot of hate mail about that. Usually from people with a DSB that crashed but still, I gave up saying anything detrimental. From now on, it's only positive remarks.

Who'd have thought Paul was into EXTREME reefing.

Like, " You're positive that they'll crash"? Or, "You positively would'nt have one"?

Is that an old AquaClear HOB? And you modified it to do what?

Here is a few shots of the pentagonal fresh water tank that I converted over to reef this week.
However I do feel badly that I didn't leave any of the cords dangling in the water

after I posted that picture I had to think about those clowns--then I realized it is the screen saver on their computer screen.

As per my above post I can't answer the first part but as per the second part, yes, I am positive I will never have one.

It's a very old some kind of HOB filter container. Probably much older than many members on here. It is the "manifold" where the three UGF tubes are connected to the bottom of. The purpose is to get even flow to all of the tubes. I used to have the tubes hooked up directly to the pump but I found that being the tubes are different lengths, some will fill with air and very little water would flow. With this "state of the art" system, the bubbles rise out of the tubes because the water is flowing slowly and it is open to the atmosphere. The thing is gravity fed.
And best of all, no one has to like it but me.
I could go out and buy anything I want, all the latest gadgets but there is nothing manufactured that I want. Nothing out there would do what I want it to do. Also, I am a builder, I need to make stuff. I am working on a new type of Supermodel.

How wierd is this. My Leutenant from Viet Nam just sent me a picture of the monkey I had. Her name was Judy and she was a real B---h. She would jump on you, take whatever was in your pocket, throw most of it in your face, and run away.
Maybe it was because she was always drunk.
I wonder if thats the same can I have in my tank.

Hey Paul, is that a monkey on your back? ....

oKay, I need sleep....

Time for 20 questions...
Questions on the Diatom Filter. I remember reading you just bring it over to the sink to back flush. Do you get little bits of gravel in there and does the back flushing get it out? Or do you just not care about the bits of grains left in there? I seem to have bits of gravel in the bottom of mine and the back flushing didn't get them out. Didn't know if I should break the seal and open it up to rinse them out? I let it drain out and is empty in the glass jar besides the gravel bits right now. Should I do that or always leave water in there?

Leave the gravel in it. Unless you need that teaspoon of gravel. If you ever open the thing for something you can take it out then.

Judy must be pretty old now---I am thinking it might be good to match her up with the water keeper.

I bet you probably got this at Bradlees when you bought your undergravel filters? I think that is a Penn Plax or Hartz, that's all they carried and only place where I saw that filter. The filter cartridge was inserted diagonally into it with one side filter floss other side was carbon.

I got this thing 15 years ago for one of my beginning freshwater tanks while I was still in middle school!

I would still have mine if I didn't accidentally step on it. I still have the intake strainer which is the same size as the smaller AC filters.

Just wondering, where do you get your fish oil from, the quantity and cost?

Amazing you get any flow through that seeing it's only about a 10" drop. Seems the sand would be heavy enough to hold back that little of flow.

I get the fish oil in a pharmacist like CVS, I take the same stuff myself. I don't know the cost but I am sure it is less than $5.00 a year. The capsules are large, like 3/4". I stick them with a pin and squeeze the oil out. It stinks also.

I think Judy may be a little too good looking for WK and also a little young for him.

ddinox, are you asking me that? If you are, I have no Idea. The tubes are 14" from the bottom of the container and there is no sand only gravel. There is no problem

BumbleBees

I thought that my BumbleBees were long gone - I haven't seen them for at least a month (and my 30G isn't very big)

I came home from work last night and lo and behold, there's a BumbleBee swimming around. His colours really picked up. When I got them the black was more of a dark grey and the yellow was almost white. Now it's jet black with bright yellow stripes.

What a cool fish.

Paul. Just going through your gallery. Your newest picture is over a year old. Well that's not true. You've posted pictures of life you'v caught which is always interesting. How about a newer FTS please?

My Mollies are still alive, so I may have done something right. They are non stop at eating algae. Even see them sifting sand. Had the nice looking sailfins been on sale for this experiment. I would have been a tiny bit happier than just the Dalmations.

Now if they'd only have babies so I would get some fresh food for the other guys in there.
