Hello there!!
My name is Kessie, I am completely new to all of this and I was looking for a new challenge and went straight for a salt water aquarium of 128L, I set it up in January.
I have been a bit overwhelmed by all the terminology and level of knowledge you actually need to keep a healthy tank but I am a quick learner and thanks to Internet, I have indeed learned a lot. But there is still so much to do, and improve!! Thank you in advance for all your patience answering my future questions!!! Kessie |

Hi everyone
My name is Max. I am not new to the hobby per se... I had a few reef tanks including a 28 gallon bow front and a Red Sea Max 250 system. However I have been out of the hobby for the last few years and it's crazy how quickly things change. Will be starting up a reef again so could use everyone's input and experience. Been lurking these boards for a while figured I would finally sign up hehe. Anyways thanks for letting me join!

Hello everyone! I've been lurking/reading for a couple weeks now and decided I'd go ahead and introduce myself.
I am new to the hobby. I'm setting up my tank tomorrow. It is a Nuvo 20 and I know that a 20 is hard to start on, but that's the space I have (...for now). I just posted a thread if you'd like to read about my setup and weigh in on it: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...8#post24479788 I really like the community that you guys have here and appreciate all the advise that is available for newbies like myself. Hope to contribute knowledge one day myself and complete the cycle (kind of a pun based on all the reading I've been doing about cycling my tank). Cheers, Whisky Penguin |

Hello. I've been keeping planted freshwater tanks for many years, and always avoided saltwater, thinking it was much more difficult. A friend of mine and I were talking, and she said that she found saltwater actually easier to maintain once it was set up and established. That blew my mind, and I've been researching ever since.
I am still completely in the learning phase, and soaking up all the information I can get. -Erica |

Your friend is right, but each tank is different. Even 2 tanks set up identically can have far different parameters, and one can be a dream tank, and the other a complete nightmare. If you try and do everything right, and a little luck, hopefully you end up with an enjoyable experience. Just use good quality equipment, and pure water, quality sand and rock, and keep up with testing parameters, and making adjustments as needed.

New to Hobby
Hey guys, I'm Lee.
Just wanted to introduce myself. Two months ago I purchased a 100gal tank and stand off craigslist, good deal came with sump, light, protein skimmer, and powerheads. I sanded down the stand and refinished it, put new hardware on it. Purchased 80 lbs of dry base rock and a RO/DI system started out the rock in a tub in the garage for three weeks. Tested everything and filled the tank with mixed water and 80 pounds of rinsed dry sand last weekend. One week in and my PH is good Ammonia is present Nitrite is moving up as well as Nitrate. Ive been using MicroBacter 7 for the whole week and from what I see my tank is starting to go through its cycle.. Thank you Reef Central, your forum has helped educate me. |

Hey, Im Jeff.
Interested in starting a saltwater aquarium, so I joined here. I currently have an empty 40ga breeder tank. Trying to decide on purchasing or building a stand, and trying to figure out what all I need for the tank. I intend to have a few fish at this point, maybe some coral in the future. Thanks, Jeff |

Just wanted to say hi!
Just wanted to say hello to everyone here. I have been keeping fresh water tanks for a while now, have 4 of them in my house. I have my 72g goldfish tank, my 20g tropical tank, 10g shrimp tank, and a 1/2g nano tank.
I have been wanting to get a reef tank for quite a long time now. Finally just got really serious about researching and will be looking around this website for a while before I make any purchases. I will probably be going around various threads and bothering people. Just wanted to say hello and how damn excited I am to start! |

Apologies, I kinda introduced myself with a post here in the newbie section.
I am absolutely new to the hobby, have always wanted to try it. Maybe a mistake, but I am picking up a 55 gal tank from a neighbor, probably tonight or tomorrow night. It is a complete setup, just hasn't been run for a bit. Needs cleaning and some TLC (getting the entire wood cabinet setup, tank, sponge filters, lights, backup systems for aeration, all kinds of stuff - for $200. Can't turn it down. I know I will probably replace some of the equipment with newer stuff, but oh well... this is finally pushing me into getting a tank. Aloha! |

Hi RC - I been keeping a small, planted 10G freshwater tank for a few years and finally decided to take the leap to a salt water fish tank. I've always felt that salt water was going to be a lot more work with all the chemistry, pumps, and everything but seeing what people are able to do and keep has inspired me to go for it. I'll probably be lurking around and trying to soak up some collective knowledge.
Congrats on the new family, Darmar7812! |

Hello everyone,
My name is Brian and I just recently pulled the trigger on a reef tank. I've been wanting one and doing research for months, and 2 weeks ago my older brother told me he was moving and didn't want to hassle with his tank. So I decided to pull the trigger and am now a happy owner of a 75 gallon reef tank with 6 fish and some coral that has been in place for a while. Look forward to learning more about this hobby with you guys as time goes on. - Winflakes |

Hi everyone,
Name is Kent. I'm not new to reefcentral. Been lurking and reading here off and on for the past 4 years soaking in info about a possible marine tank while maintaining planted fresh water. I just bit the bullet on March 2016 and got a Red Sea Reefer 170. Hope all will go well with the knowledge I got from here. Please to meet you guys. |

Howdy,
My name is John. I'm not new to RC either, joined back when I was 16, now 31 years old. I have had a 70 gallon reef and a 12g JBJ nano cube, also kept African cichlids before. Been out of the aquarium hobby altogether for 5-6 years and want to do a 20-45 reef setup. A lot has changed since the "old days" when I did it! I live in Billings, MT now and my LFS has a 20 and a 45 rimless combo. They have the 20 priced at $300 including the very basic skimmer and LED lighting. Tempted to do that or the 45 at $400 although that one doesn't include lighting. |

Hello all,
My name is Andrew. I am a bit of an odd member in that I am actually not a reef keeper but a planted tanker! However, lately I have come to realize and appreciate these two fishkeeping niches - I feel that us planted tank people can certainly learn a lot from the reef community. The reef keeper philosophy has so much to learn from - doing it right the first time and not cheaping out, considering all aspects of of the tank's ecosystem, etc. But most of all, I never cease to be amazed by the equipment and technical know-how prevalent amongst reef keepers - you guys have found ways to automate just about everything! I think large reefs and planted tanks are similar in benefiting from the carefully planned use of fancy equipment and automation systems. Unfortunately the planted tank world is still slow to catch up on such things, with detailed information and threads on such matters far and few between. I look forward to learning a lot here. |
