I might consider that but if I do, I think I'll do so accurately.

It's actually the original Canon Digital Rebel and not the XT... A difference of a couple less mega pixels.

Question: How are you liking the 240 long? My plywood tank failed this past week

and now I am looking at buying a tank. I have decided to go with a 240.
I can't decide between the eight footer with 25" height or the six with 31" height. Both will fit(in wall basement setup) and I am leaning toward the 8 footer. Any thoughts on this now that you have had yours for a while now? Do you need anymore height?

Chris, I do still like the 240 layout but would better appreciate it if it were deeper, front to back. If I were to do a similar tank again, I'd give serious thought to a tank 6' wide and 6' deep. The 2' height works fine for me and helps to allow for the use of 250 MH lighting. I think anything deeper and to keep SPS happy and healthy would require moving up to 400's as a minimum. This based on growth rates in the wild compared to in-tank rates and the ability to place SPS and/or clams down low if needed. But mostly, this is just my opinion and your mileage may vary.

But keep in mind the lighting requirements should you choose to go deeper (height) than 2'. Thank you for the kind words.

I agree. Once you get over 24" deep, it does take that extra light, and for my tank, which is 35" deep, I use 1000W SE lamps.

Matt, It's working well with no issues. My seat-of-the-pants observation has it turning off sooner than before after cycling on. It does appear to be more efficient, whether due to the function of the barrel itself or the fact that the hot-air producing condenser/compressor being located outside now, or both. Either way, it's working out well and seemingly in a more efficient manner than prior to the upgrade.

Would you mind sharing how you cut the recess for the end piece of the chiller coil chamber for the acrylic tube? I have cut grooves in a round end piece, but I'm not thinking clear enough to envision how to cut the groove on a router table for something shaped as a hexagon. Any tricks you could share?

Matt,
It was actually quite easy. It entailed doing the routing prior to cutting the parts down to hexagons.

I started with rectangles, did all the needed routing and drilling and then trimmed the pieces to the final shape.
