Lewy, Beautiful pictures, they definitely say a thousand words! I'm in awe of the beauty of the tide pools near you, how amazing indeed. To think salt water crocs and clownfish happen to inhabit the same areas at times is wild. Do the crocs ever venture out into the reef zone past the tide pools?

wow! how amazing would that be to see all that stuff living out in the wild!! I can only hope that one time in my lifetime I would be able to go to the reef and see such beauty!!! you have no idea how lucky you are!

I'll do any chores needed....Just let me play in the tidepools/reef an hour a day....You pay to fill my tanks, I'll bring my own scuba gear, and I will do all housework!

Tides were good today so we went out again to have a "poke" around.
Decorator crab?  Random acros.  Large Colt coral colony.  Large Black Cuc.   If you look closely. A Juvenile Muelleri Butterfly.  Best for last. A local Tang that we caught.

Awesome, (hate to mimic what already been said....but that is the best way to put it).
I was wondering though, it seems like all i read about is how reefs only exist in low nutrient areas of shallow seas (i.e. not coastal regions, due to run off). Is this why the acro is all brown? Or is that a more natural coloration?

I hope it never catches on, I like having the oldest tank on here and I don't have to worry about calcification, bio pellets, Vodka dosing, DSBs, Chaetomorpha (I don't even know what that is) Carbonite hardness and all of these other things many people worry about. If I had to think about all of that stuff I would get a stroke. My test kit came in a wooden box and the directions say to keep in a cool chariott. I throw some food in the tank, wave hello to the fish and go out with my wife and have a nice glass of merlot with dinner. We think that the acros are brown and generally colourless due to the very turbid (dirty water).
At our other collection spot the water is a bit clearer and the acros are more colourful. More greens and pinks. I'll post up some pics later of some of the acros collected previously from the other spot. |
