RR Crazy T is growing

Milka Stylophora

The green Monti developed a dead spot in the middle a few weeks ago but it's stabilized now and I can see new growth on the edge of the dead area.

love that Stylo. That thing is massive. My smallfrag I received from you is also growing. Once I get it under stronger light it should really take off.

Thanks Rob, my tank has plenty of ups and downs. I just photograph the ups more than the downs, lol.

My Shallow Reef

My Nitrates have been slowly climbing over the last four months. The tank was looking pretty good so I got lazy and stopped testing NO3. By the time I tested it was between 10-12. I've been increasing my water changes to 3 gallons twice a week. Also trying to change my filter socks every 2-3 days. Been doing this about three weeks and at least it's stabilized around 10.
I still test Alk three or four times a week and it's pretty steady between 6 and 7. Ca is usually 420-440. Mg hovers around 1350 without dosing.
I also dosed Chemi Clean a few weeks ago for cyano. My other problem is my anemone split twice so now I have four anemones that are stinging some corals. Need to figure out how to rehome 2 or three anemones. They are attached to a pretty porous rock and the feet are fairly tough to reach.

Beautiful setup! Will be following closely. I started a 55g recently and purchased a psammacora ,jason fox porite and mystic monti. From the ones you have are they fast growers? Encrust quickly?

My Shallow Reef

Montipora typically grow very fast once they settle in and get happy. My psammacora grows steadily but not super fast, and I've never had porite.
This montipora lantana photo is from May 2016

What is the green w dots that's in the 5th picture on top right corner? Sits close to your home wreaker. Thought that was like my jason fox porite but at second glance not so much haha

Did you mean this one?
This is Montipora Spongodes, and it grows super fast!

Yes that one. Beautiful greens. The montis I got are the entrusting type. Psammacora, jason fox porite and mystic monti. That monti seems to be plating type?

What type of monti that will plate and grow fairly quickly would you recommend? Need some nice growth in my new tank

Here is my tank build thread if you would like to check it out.

My Shallow Reef

Thanks Chris!
I went back to dripping in Kalkwasser at night, and some light carbon dosing.
I’m using NoPox 10ml a day to get the Nitrates down. They had gone all the way up over 40 and over the last six weeks I’ve gotten them down to 15.
Phosphate is just barely detectable.
Alk 8.3
Ca 450

Nitrates are now between 7 and 10.
Definitely slowing algae growth.

Nitrates at 5
Phosphate 0.03
Alk 8.1
Ca 420
Mg 1350

Going to ease off the NoPox slowly, I’d like to keep these parameters where they are.

Top down shots this morning
