actually im holding it for a friend ive only had it for 3 weeks and he will be gone in 1 and a half. he has had to move tanks also due to a break in the tank.

I was wondering how well the overflow skims the top of the water?
I have seen a lot of pictures of other peoples tank and it seems like the overflow isn't getting the "scum" off of the top of the water.

Very nice kingfisher62, I just love zoa's, mushrooms and button polyps.

My Blue and Green Stripe mushrooms are getting huge compared to yours. I wonder why yours are not getting enourmous/gigantic like mine. They look very nice, but I don't want them getting so big, that one mushroom takes up a whole area. I have a 29g tank and they take up a lot of space.





But I just love zoanthids and button polyps.

Thanks rjwilson37, Your tank looks impressive! Nice shots ,what type camera are you using?
There are some bigger green striped are not visable .My shrooms seem to go thru phases . Some times the reds are huge sometimes the purple are then the striped or hairy ones.

Yes, the mushrooms definately make this hobby interesting. Mine were going down hill in the old Aquapod, because the darn Velvet Damsel was picking/eating at them. Now that there free of that, they are just having a hay day and happy as a clam.

I use the Kodak Z700, which has a 6x optical zoom, a macro mode for closeups, and it is a 4mp camera. I payed $200 for it a few years ago, which was not bad for a camera of this sort.

A lot of times when you see surface scum in pics it's because the pumps are off for the picture. All the suspended stuff floats to the surface, and mine in particular some water comes back over the overflow, taking some gunk from my filter floss with it.

If you aren't getting the kind of surface skimming you'd like, try an SRS Nanoskim from Nanotuners . I have one on my BC14 and I love it, keeps the surface clear all the time (as long as the pumps are on). I did block the bottom intake in my BC to make it more effective.

Just finished installing the knobs on my DIY stand for my 29 BC. By next weekend I hope to have sand, water and rock in. I am getting my rock from my brother who has over 100lbs of lr in his sump/fuge, also a scoop of his sand to get the bacteria growing, and a squeeze of his bacteria filled sponge.

I have a 14G that I started in February which was doing great until today when one of the ballasts blew. I've read this is a common problem with them and am wondering how good Oceanic is at living up to their warranty

Luna81 - It's tough to answer your question as everyone has an opinion. The best thing to do is figure out what you want in the tank first, then work from there. Once you know what you want we can help you make some decisions.

I'm starting a new BC-29 at work and the RSM at home. I'm shocked how much bigger the RSM appears, even though it's only 5G more.

Anyway, keep posting and we'll try to help.

Jfro- Thanks. I guess that this just seems like a decent tank for a starter because it comes with so much. I'm extremely overwhelmed about going in and getting pieces myself. Plus, I have cats and this seems to be enclosed fairly well. My husband likes a 45 bow front we saw at the pet store, but I wouldn't even know how to get started.

I also want to start with something that has a smaller start up cost insofar as sand/rock/etc. to make sure I really stick with the hobby before I put lots and lots of money into it.

(Although, I know I'll end up putting lots and lots of money into it. Heh)

I recently downsized from a SPS dominated 65 gallon to this 29 gallon Biocube. Pretty much had to start over on the corals, but saved the rock, sand and water from my old tank.

(Still battling a small diatom problem, and please excuse the coraline spots on the front glass.)

I gotta bc 29 with tunze doc 9002 skimmer and koralia power head. Cut overflow from chamber 1 to 2, removed bioballs and replaced with LR and Tunze skimmer.
