WOW that looks pretty sweet. What do you think of it so far? The Bulb will burn in as a more crisp blue.

Its a lot bluer than the 10K 96w PC bulb I had before. I am liking it and the "shimmer" in the tank. Going to set it for 3-4hrs and work the duration up from there.
I may lower a little be, as you can see the spillage on the back wall and its worse over the front. The tank next to my couch and I feel like I am sun tanning. My other option is once I get to a full 10hr light period to do in during the day while I am away. |

It looks like your tank is covered. You can remove that and get better light penetration.
Since it is new, it only needs to run about 4 hours a day. I'm running mine 6 hours a day. There is no reason to blast that much light into your tank 10 hours a day, especially with a tank that has so little livestock. Even when you do have more, you won't need 10 hours a day. |

Thanks for the info, I would take the cover off but I got a couple curious cats. They already have tried to swim in the tank when I was working on it a couple weeks ago.

You may want to create a matching perimeter type of facing, akin to a chimney. That might be tall enough to keep your feline friends out and also keep the light in the tank and out of your eyes.

A canopy "facade" has been an idea I have had also. I just need figure out something that would be structurally strong, but give me easy access to the tank. Now that its warm up here I may try to build something.

![]() You might want to consider moving theout two reflector in slightly. In the picture it looks as if the is alot of light bleeding off the side of the canopy. Even by moving them an inch does make a huge difference. |

Yeah last night i was just happy to get it roughed in. i will be pulling the canopy off today to add latches and do some painting plus make some covers around the return lines. Also i need to address adding fans to move the air. The entire top of the canopy is open so i'm not sure how i want to make use of the fans just yet. If ya have any suggestions let me know. Also do you think moving the outboard lights in would help with the shadows from the cross braces?

Yes moving them in will fade the shadows of the cross braces, it did with mine. It will also give you more par in the cross/intersecting light. I would place fans on the sides of the canopy blowing accross the water. If you have them all blow in then the heat will exit through the top of the canopy. This is how I have mine set up and it work pretty well.

If you think those are too far apart, mine don't stand a chance. They are 15 inches from the bottom of the reflector to the watrer surface. They are 7.25 inches apart from each other. Needless to say without panels on, the basement is lit up.
And I really can't photograph my tank. ![]()

Which reflector would offer the best coverage for a 40g breeder. I really dont want two reflectors and the lumen brights are within my price range.

You could probably use a Mini pendant since that tank is 36" x 18". If you went with the larger one, the light spread would be much wider since the reflector is already 16" wide.

Optimally you want the ends of the reflector to reach the end of where the coral is growing. This way most of the coral is receiving light. Or should I say less of the coral is in the shade. The more you come in outside the end of where the coral grows the more of the coral is in the shade. It is just a matter of what percentage of the surface of your coral is receiving light. As the day goes by and the angle of the sun to a coral changes, the coral will generally receive light on all of its surface throughout the course of a day. We cannot reproduce this effectively enough yet in our tanks. So if a part of a coral is left in the shade indefinitely, then that part of the coral generally does not do so well. I compromise myself with 2 large LB's and a 5ft tank. I would much rather be closer to the ends of my growth. I am actually thinking of 3 mini LB's with 250w bulbs. At any rate JM, if you are going with one go with a large and raise it up ![]()
