A patent? I doubt that is in Boxfish's future. After all, he's not claiming to have come up with some new compound or device. He cannot patent the 'idea' of using in reef tanks something we all have access to.

but there are alot of propriatary products out there in the reef world that we just don't know what the ingrediants are.... We guess but some of them could be sugar water or just common ingrediants.

thats the idea around using a algae scrubber. remote removal of DOC and other stuff.
No. Turf algae are a source of DOC, not a sink. That's one of the main points of the papers above. Turf algaes leak DOC which corals don't seem to like. Forrest Rohwer and his lab have put together a case that where reefs are being eutrophied, it's not the N and P directly harming the corals, but release of DOC by the turf algae that the N and P fuels.

Would that be true of all macro algae such as Chaeto? Would carbon take care of the DOC?

Diamonds or wait I got it Cat hair...

It's already been guessed but the only thing I can think of is charcoal. Specifically extruded charcoal since it would contain the least amount of impurities compared to say kingsford briquettes which have a ton of other things in there to get it burning faster. He said someone already guessed it and I would assume it was the old gac suggestion.

I took the bag of carbon out, and after a few days the clear bacterial slime subsided. Very odd, and it will only proliferate in dark areas.

By the way, I stopped using GFO to lower phosphate. I just flex in front of my reef for about 5 minutes, which brings PO4 down to undetectable levels. Also stabilizes my pH.
I'm sorry, but the ONLY person that can control bacteria blooms just by flexing is CHUCK NORRIS. And you my firend are no Chuck Norris.

well I may as well tell you guys my idea.

It was and is biopellets. However the guy who sells them, got around to it before me, with my limited understanding of chemistry. Hahaha.

oh well, for those of you who were wondering its the same concept as biopellets. I may invent a better product than this in the future. After of course I test biopellets out and see any problems aquarists have with it.
