so i am looking to upgrade to a better skimmer. currently have an octopus 160 extreme with purple pin wheel on a 90G well stocked. i'm considering the I-tech 200, octopus super cone, ATBs. can anyone offer any comparative info from their own personal experience?

I am popping in between 18-22(20average)LPM > 1200 LPH
but my dywer meter has 3mm diameter inlet causing little restriction... i am guessing about 10% + on actual draw...

Hey all, I'm thinking of getting this skimmer. It is rated at for about a 200g average stocked tank. Do you guys think that is accurate?

Mine's in 6 3/4 right now and the level is set just above the the white ring. It is skimming a bit wet so I have some more tuning to do but I have no visible turbulence and it pulling much better than my old EV-120. From a performance perspective I'm pretty happy - I just need to get the noise issue sorted.
My pump quieted down a bit but still pretty loud. I have discussed with my LFS and he is contacting Coralvue. I'll let people know what comes of it. |

Got mine up and running on Saturday. Ill post some pics tonight. Unlike some other people the pump was quiet out of the box. I will be keeping a close eye on it.
I am very impressed with the skimmer. Its running in a constant 6.25" of water with a bubble break at the white ring. I had a nice foam head in a couple hours and it hasnt stopped since. The skimmate is rather wet right now but i expect that to change over time. Currently there are NO fish in the tank. I had a Euro Reef running prior to this and the ER did not pull anything. The comparison is not far as this is a much larger skimmer but I can say that the ER pulled absolutely nothing out of the tank where as this has pulled about a half inch in under 24 of installation. I have also noticed that this skimmer is not nearly as sensitive to hands in the water or food. In past skimmers ive owned if i were to stick my hand in the tank or feed the foam would collapse for a few hours. This issue seems to be non existent the xp2000. |

if you look at my pics from yesterday ,you can see that my footprint is not that big. i have a 15x15 foot print ,and the sump only takes up about 10 x 12 1/2x 21 1/2.

This back from Coralvue via my LFS. I haven't been home since I got this and I don't have a clue what the flange referenced is - if anyone understands this I'd love an explanation.
The pumps do require a few weeks of spinning before they break in. The shaft is made of a silicone carbine material that as it spins it will lubricate the rear bearing on the motor. Also ask the customer if he can take the impeller out of the pump and make sure that the flange is pushed all the way back into the motor. He could also have something that has been sucked into the pump that is sitting in the rear bearing. |

So I took my pump apart this evening to check as per recommendation. When I put it back together it was as noisy as ever. Then it occurred to me that the o-ring separating the front of the pump from the body might need to be more tightly compressed to dampen vibration. I checked my theory by squeezing the front of the pump to the body. It worked fairly well so I pulled the pump out again and tightened the screws down. It is pretty quiet now
Love to hear from others to see if this is the problem. |
