Hey Paul, I love the chain. Is it galvanized or what?
The chain I built out of acrylic and the can is coated with fiberglass resin.
I removed thecan because the fiberglass deteriated over time.
This thread is about unique, so, it's unique.

If it's galvanized, how bad is zinc for a reef tank?
Galvanized, or zinc is about as bad as copper

A picture of my setup on a reef maintenance day

Here is the RSB

Lighting and canopy removed; when they are on you can only see the top skimmer cup.

Anything you put over wood will deteriate over time. The fiberglass is fine but the wood swells or shrinks with time making tiny cracks and gaps. When the water enters it further deteriates the wood and eventually the entire thing will fall apart.
They make some boat parts like that like the deck but the wood core is marine plywood which will hold up even when wet. The glues used in marine plywood may be detrimental to aquarium marine life.

Wow........that is a pretty sad truth. Boat parts that are bad for aquatic inhabitants! Figures!

It may only be bad if it is in constant contact with an enclosed body of water like a tank.
Most parts of a boat are toxic to a fish tank. The bottom paint is composed of copper to dissuade barnacles from sticking and the outdrives are aluminum also painted with paint which is detrimental to aquatic life.
But on my boat there is plenty of Vodka that I could use to dose the ocean if the boat sank.

I've been having trouble getting ricordia to stay alive although ricordia yuma seem to be no problem.
a few years ago i could buy a whole good size ricordia rock for about $30 now they want $15 per head. When i do get them i expect them to live long and prosper.

Sir, you made me shoot coffee out my nose. Well done.

However, be careful not to dose yourself too heavily while driving the boat
