I received my coral frags from reefkoi dot com and they were great! I will take pictures here shortly when my 20k bulb arrives. I got one off of ebay for $14 shipped and it's new so we will see how it looks compared to this one. I didn't want to shell out $60+ for a bulb to find out I don't like the 20k spectrum.

Also, I think I need more flow. I have a quiet one 2200 return pump which is about 5-600 gph and a hydor koralia 1400. Just don't think the flow is enough so I was thinking about adding a Koralia Evo 1400. I also wonder if a Evo 1400 will still be enough. Just no chaotic flow unfortunately so thinking the two 1400 pointing towards each other at a 45 degree angle will give some good rough water flow. Any ideas?

that quiet one return pump is probably pushing maybe 200gph by the time headloss is factored in, so barely any flow at all, and the koralia, yeah. Definitely need more flow.
Vortech MP40w will be what I'm running along with a little giant return pump (close to 700-800gph after head loss) and I'll probably still need more flow (I have the exact same tank as you, from glass cages) If they have the flow focus piece, put one of those on and it should create a more concentrated flow, while leavin the other normal. Should help. You may end up needing two more of those koralias though.

I thought the same thing about the quiet one return but with 3/4' loc line it has a very good amount of flow. Same as the Koralia but in a smaller stream compared to the wide dispersement of the K4.
I got some more pictures. I added 35lbs of Marco rock from PA and it is amazing stuff. I'm not done arranging it as I still have 10lbs to go and will redo the left side of it but when this stuff purples up man it will look nice! Also, check that skimmage out after about a day. Not a lot but it was super concentrated nasy sewage smellin stuff. [IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() This is the aquatraders PS160 as I've stated before. Cheap but better than any skimmer Iv'e ever tried. The 20k bulb off of ebay looks awesome. After a month I still really like it so I'll have to take a pic this week and show it off. Here is a night video I just took. It is starting to really come together.

Wow, after watching that video I see that the LED moonlights play havoc on my cheap camera. I will take a day video and picture tomorrow if I get a chance. Anybody know how to post a video and have it show on my post rather than just having a direct link?

Nice tank. I am currently going to Purdue. I havea 93 cube that I really enjoy. My only regret is that I didn't go rimless. I went the cheaper route by buying the marineland tank and stand. I know it would been cheaper for me to go with glass cages, but I seen so many mixed reviews I couldn't take the risk. I really like your setup. Let me know if you ever need any help setting stuff up, I am only an hour away and I would love to help out a Purdue grad.

Here is my update with pictures to follow this post. THe system has take care of itself for the most part. Water chemistry is as good as my test will read, Ca:420-440, Mag: 1320-1380, Kh:10-11, PH:8.2-8.3 (this is over the last 2 months so there is a little variation)

The water is not clear because I just did a water change and I haven't cleaned the glass yet. My camera takes all the color out unfortunately so you can't see that it really is quite beautiful. I will take a video in a second and see how that looks.

The camera and video recorder lose a lot of depth. How do you guys allow the camer to show the depth and color?

It doesn't look like there is any more interest in this build anymore? Oh well, here is another update shot with some more SPS colonies i just got from a fellow reefer getting out of the hobby. I'm about to add a Calcium reactor, Octopus JR, wavemaker pro, and some other misc from his setup so I will keep all who still follow this thread up to date. Have a great weekend everybody!
BTW: the Odyssea light is still going strong as well as the cheap Koralia knockoffs I got from ebay. $42 for two 1400gph pumps shipped! I will try them on the wavemaker pro and we shall see how long they last... |
