Fixed that for you.

The best I can determine from all the haters is that a products propensity to burst into flames is directly proportional to the cost.

It is either that or some are miffed about buying expensive magic beans that work no better than all the other beans.

I love the hype attached to lights and costs. All lights I have ever had have a life expectaency...wait ....that anything electrical or mechanical you say. Mmmmm. and anything electrical is never recommended around water ,,or ,,saltwater in particular..
True
My point is after years of trying to afford live plants and corals icecap to odyssea any of them can be bad and require maintence and inspection. There simply are no plug and forget fixtures in aquariums..

Poor thread, just can't be allowed to die...

The problem isn't a matter of "anything can fail so why bother with expensive stuff". It is that Odyssea's biggest failure is in wiring. That is why some work perfectly and others fail spectacularly. Any fixture can potentially fail. But a fixture that fails because of horrible wiring... I mean, it'd be one thing if it were because of a cheap ballast. Or a cheap material design. But to fail because they couldn't be bothered to wire them adequately. There is little excuse for that. Especially since that is where you cross the line from faulty to just plain dangerous.

Odyssea could actually be rather fine for low-quality equipment, if they'd just wire the damned things correctly. They didn't even learn from their previous massive failures, since they improved wiring just enough to avoid creating fire hazards but not nearly enough to prevent component failures.

BTW, Just out of curiosity, does proper wiring really effect the price of a lighting fixture that drastically or is it just that Odyssea has a mission in life to wire everything incorrectly? I could see a fixture here and there, but I have yet to see a single Odyssea fixture get opened up and have a positive review of the wiring. It's always a long list of major mistakes. For every single light fixture model they put out.

Aquatraders suck

I have 3 odyssea lights from aquatraders and 2 of them work fine. I have ran a 24" Mh/t5 for over a a year with no problems and there freshwater led is a great light. I bought a 48" t5 quad with built in timer and right after I plugged it in the led night lights burnt out and started smoking. I contacted aquatraders and tried to exchange it. Anyone who has gotten a bad product knows they ignored me. I went down to their store front in the bay and what a $h.4 hole that place! There's some Chinese lady running the store who won't even talk to you and acts like a nazi. The Asian guy at the register was nice but he obviously had his hands tied. I owned this light for a week at that point and it was on my tank for a few minutes and they wouldn't exchange it. If you buy from them good luck you never know if what you get will work and if it doesn't

The freshwater one works great and it's really cheap. I haven't had any problems with that light and it seems like its made better. I've been running it for awhile and no LEDs have gone out. The only thing that sucks is you have to manually switch the lit from full to moonlight and you can't use a time for that feature. If you do get it I would suggest amazon because you can return it if it doesn't work. Stay away from aquatraders directly!

My cousin has the Led fixture and T5 Fixture (both odyssea) on his 120gallon tank. His tank is doing great and the colors are incredible. However, he claims he needs more blues (on his led light). Something that can be over looked (by me) since his blue led still shine more than my pc actinics.
