I put a 1'' elbow on the outlet of my SVS3-30, just to keep the skimmer's output from splashing in my sump.
It may add a little backpressure, but that's easily compensated for by opening the gate valve on the outlet a touch.

I'm a little surprised that I don't see anyone upgrading to the Mazzei Venturi. maybe it's a space issue? it is pretty long and odd shaped if space is a concern.
Jeff didn't even try to push me on it but after going to the Mazzei website I could tell it was a very high end Venturi company that JUST does Venturi's. $70 bucks, no brainer IMO |

I haven't had any issues with the "stock" venturi, and i'm not so sure I'd even want the skimmer to skim more than it does, so I haven't bothered picking up the Mazzei yet. If my current venturi ever needs replacing, then I may look into getting the Mazzei.

Have you seen his setup? I don't think that is even a factor.

LOL, yeah… i put all my extra cash recently into coke and womenz.
![]() But srsly… i've had issues recently with not enough nutrients in the tank. I've thought about putting the skimmer on a timer. But for now just trying to feed the tank more. ![]()

He recommends the 978 on the 36" and smaller, the 1078 48" and larger. Me personally, I liked the 1078 on the 36" but had to lower the water level in the skimmer to keep from over flowing. 1.5" below the bottom of the skimmer flange produced a nice dry foam for me. The 978 performed great also running about 1 - 1.25" below the flange. I have some pictures posted in this thread of the 36".

Thanks.
Been thinking about ordering one of these from Jeff. I'm running a Lifereef sump, I may have pump siting problems with a Venturi that long. The skimmer compartment isn't that large.

Hooked up my. 30" with the mazzei venturi. Man is that big. They are more than twice as big as on my MTC. Also they are 1" diameter as opposed to 3/4" as on MTC. That's why Lifereef doesn't need a pressure pump and why MTC does. The 3/4" needs a pressure pump.
